Hey Gang, I have a chance on a deal for one, anyone using a Red Label for skeet/sporting clays? If so, what's your opinion? Thanks in advance for your comments.....

Ruger Red Label?

My Dad's got an over/under he uses for pheasant. It's a nicely finished gun, and I also enjoy shooting it.Looking for a 3" Magnum 870 $200-$250ish -
I have had a Ruger for some time and I can tell you that if you are going to do a LOT of shooting, it will start to get sloppy after 10K rounds or so. At least mine did and I had a newer stainless steel 'All-weather' one, bought in about 1999.
I ended up buying a different brand specifically for skeet/trap because I do shoot a LOT and wanted something to last me more than 10K rounds. (More like 100K rounds.)
If you are going to simply use it for hunting and occasional trap/skeet, then I would say you have a good firearm there. That is really it's purpose. Most of Ruger's guns are very well built and their shotguns are no exception. They are just not built for a lot of rounds for the long haul.
I still have that Ruger and take it hunting with me every year, it's a good gun for shooting on a less competitive basis. Most shooters do not shoot more than a few thousand rounds in their lifetime. But there are many that shoot enough for several lifetimes. Those are the guys/gals that need a little more out of their guns and opt for a higher level of durability.
To sum it up, I would buy another Ruger for field and occasional skeet/trap use in a minute. Anything beyond that or not for that purpose, no.Comment
