    Barrel length?

Does a shotgun barrel has to be a certain length to be Ca compliant? Is a 14'' barrel considered a SBS and a "no go" in Ca?

No Go, and yes, anything above 18.5 and i think overall 26" at minimum

Correct, except for the length of the barrel has to be above 18 inches. Most companies make them 18.5 inches "just in case."

Also, just for future reference, owning a less than 18" barrel and a shotgun that barrel can fit on violates the federal "constructive possession" law and is treated the same as owning a Short Barreled Shotgun itself.

You did not mention what brand or gauge. Have you checked on line to see if you can order a new barrel?

Federal laws also prohibits you from acquiring a less than 18" shotgun barrel.

To measure barrel length, close the action & drop a dowel or rod down the barrel.

There must be 18" of barrel from a closed bolt.

If cutting a barrel, most cut it long.
If you have to file it square, you don't want to go too short.

A barrel too short to keep decent groups isn't worth a 10 year federal sentence.

                    Good luck Brother.
