28 inch barrel HD

Is a 28 inch barrel too long for HD or would it be just fine?

Just dont know if buying an 18 inch barrel is worth it.

Put it this way, if you can walk through all the doors of your house with a 28" barreled shotgun at the ready, your house is too big.

Yes, an 18-20 inch barrel is much more maneuverable in a home defense situation.

I just threw the 28" barrel on mine because I forgot what it looked like. One thing for sure, it's way to long for HD. I'll put my 18.5" back on when I'm done playing around with it.

In a strictly defensive application, it would work in a pinch. You're going to be kicking in doors and clearing rooms with it.

It could work, if you're properly trained to use it in a HD fashion. But I wouldn't consider it unreasonable, looking at barrel costs, to buy a specific HD 18 to 20 inch.
Like Jeffy said, it would do in a pinch....but personally I hate pinches. Save the 28"er for the field and change it out to the 18/20" for the house.
8" of barrel doesn't sound like much more, until you're trying to manuver around a room or house. For a barricaded position it could work.
Pssst....buy the short barrel and go shoot a tactical SG match...you'll love it.
