    Browning Citori: Hunting/Clay vs. HD

    Hey Folks,

I've been shooting my Browning Citori for over 20 years but exclusively 7.5 / 8 shot for birds and clay with all chokes from Improved Cylinder to Full.

If push comes to shove and I need to set it up for HD, I would assume I would switch both chokes to Cylinder and use 00 buckshot.

    Advise? Comments?

Considering the range you'd be using it at in a HD situation, I think #8s would do just fine.

Every shot anything up close with your target loads? You might want to and see just what it'll do. Birdshot would also help to mitigate an over penetration problem.

I have seen articles on magazines lately of Over and Unders going tactical.
But how long is the barrel on your citori...

I'm sure it will work, specially if you practice with it..like quick reloads..etc.

But why not just get a Remy 870.

Clint Smith would say that the shotgun you have to defend yourself with doesn't matter... it's how well you run it. If you have the Citori and you are comfortable using it to defend the homestead, then that'll work nicely. Might be worth investing in Smith's DVD on shotguns and doing some practice both in live fire and with snap caps.

Switching chokes to cylinder and shooting buckshot is definitely something you could do and get good results.

Bird shot for HD = not recommended. And birdshot loads will shoot holes through wallboard at HD distances just like most anything else so the overpenetration argument is somewhat moot, IMO. BB or 4 buck is about the smallest I'd consider as a defnsive load.

          HD

First line of defense is the XDM45 with JHP

I've just wondered about my trusty Citori 28" circa 1984 birthdate and has served me well for 24 years for birds and clay since my dad gave it to me for my 16th birthday.

As for a new gun, wifey says, "no..." my XDM will be my only new addition for A WHILE...
