I recently came across a Weatherby PA-459?. That thing felt really nice. I believe they sell the same thing in auto. I've been able to find very little info on them outside of the press release.

Thanks for the articule response SF21. I'm sorry you didn't find an SPX up to expectations and yes the forends free loose on the early models, but I'll have to check out the canted front sights.
If you find yourself in the San Diego area, drop me a line and maybe we can meet up and I'll give you some trigger time behind my SPX, if interested.
Anyways, it's our diverse likes and dislikes that makes this forum interesting.

Sounds like what you really want is a Benelli M4. Why don't you continue to save until you can afford it? Or see if you can pick up a low mileage used one. I usually see them crop up for sale on the Benelli forum every month or so.

That FN SLP is really nice though. Looked at it real hard when I bought my M4. I believe the M3 is the pump/auto combo. I hear they're nice. M2 is an inertia semi (the M4 is gas). Lots of folks have good things to say about the M2. It's cheaper than the M4. Something about the inertia system doesn't like to have a lot of weight added to the gun though (if you were thinking of hanging a lot of accessories off of it).

        Peace

I've said it before, I'll say it again.. Browning Gold.. and they are coming down a bit in price since the advent of the new Maxus.. I had a friend fire my Gold after he fired the borrowed Benelli and was quite surprised how much softer the Gold shot in comparison with the same loads.. I've used mine in the blind, on the clay target ranges, and on the multi-gun ranges.. I'll keep using it since it simply works for me and eats up everything from the lightest 7/8 oz target load to the heaviest magnum steel and slug.. It does have to be cleaned, but I can generally go several cases of shells before cleaning is a neccesity..

Keep your eyes out for a nice used Benelli M1 Super 90 or M2. I picked up my very lightly used Benelli M2 Tactical for $850. They are about $1200 new.

Mossberg 930. cheap, simple, effective. Benelli M4 if u look for very moderate recoil and more prestige.

I've really got the "wants" for an FN SLP and will probably buy one when I get done paying for my next vacation ( rule in our family is vacation must be paid for before the trip, except for souvenirs ) and the extra $900 the IRS wants for my '09 taxes. Oops!

                  Go C&R and Humpback!

Not a mainstream recommendation, but there are some of us who can't resist the appeal of a C&R humpback. You can go either whole hog ...

                  Browning Auto-5 Police

... about $1200 if you can find one, or you can go light, just a plain Jane with perhaps a mag extension, maybe $250-$500, more or less depending on make, condition and deal ...

                  Browning Auto-5/Remington Model 11/Savage 720

Don't worry about it now, if you're basically the humpback type, sooner or later it will dawn on you.

It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." ~ C. S. Lewis

Once you go humpback you never go back?

1187s are nice. I like how they were outfitted by SCATTERGUN TECHNOLOGIES. Don't know if they are still available. That thing was awesome!~

I've seen an 1187 break from someone doing something stupid & trying to load too many rounds in it.
I've seen an 870 not feed because of a tiny piece being slightly bent...

However, once a Saiga 12 is built right, there's not nearly as much that can go wrong like can with the weapons with many small pieces.

Key term though; "once it's built right"

I got the 930 SPX with the standard stock, have a 22" barrel with the SPX front sight, Nordic components mag tube & barrel clamp, tactical safety. All for less than $850
It's a great shooting gun, 10 rd capacity!

                                Depends more on your budget..

I scored a used M4 (M1014) for $1000... and and used Remy 1100 for $400, but it needed $200 in parts for what I wanted to do with it.

So budget is number one, after that it's what "fits" you best. I would say that if budget was unimportant than the M4 Benelli is hard to beat.
