      You mean an assault shotgun?
      PC 12276.1...
      6. A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
      a. A folding or telescoping stock.
      b. A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.

      7. A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.
      8. Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

What if we were able to get someone out of state to remove the pistol grip, fix the mag, etc? Then would it be legal?

There are dealers modifying these to CA legal configurations... most are being turned into single shots by removing the Mag catch, however there are other ways to get around the whole 'assult shotgun' thing

If you pull the stock off it and put a pistol grip on it, its no longer a shotgun under CA law (all shotguns are shoulder fired), it would also be able to be configured with a bullet button.

Most FFL's wont touch them however.

Wouldn't that make it an AOW and require a 10 dollar tax stamp that you're never going to get in CA?

Nope, just like the M2 without a stock is not a rifle.
                Please, calm down.

Why would a firearm firing a shotshell, over 26" in length and with an 18+" bbl be an AOW?

                  It's not. It's just not a shotgun.

I have a feeling that this item will be called a Destructive device soon down the road by the BATF&E just as they called the street sweeper shotgun a DD back in 1993-1994 era.

And this one has a detachable magazine so it has a faster reload time.

I would suggest if anyone wants one of these that they get one now as my crystal ball tells me they wont be available for very long.
