    Aow ?

Does an AOW registered semi-automatic shotgun w/20rd mag trump the 10rd law?

could be wrong, but i believe that these laws are independent of each other - one pertains to mags, the other pertains to firearms - the 20 rd mag has nothing to do with the firearm it goes into - be it an SBR, SBS, AOW, handgun, etc.

in other words - no - you are still responsible for following the letter of the law regarding the use / possession of a 20 rd mag - own it before 2000, or obtain by any other legal means and you're fine - but in this case - good luck explaining how.

You still have to legally obtain the mag, I think it is also an "assualt weapon" because of the mag lock if you have a +10 rd mag

There is a law against non exempt (or second class) citizens against selling, manufacturing or importing any plus 10 round magazines. There is no law against having a non AW fixed mag shotgun with plus 10 round mag. There is a law against having a non RAW handgun with a +10 round magazine which attaches outside of the pistol grip. Unfortunately, your question is very confusing. Either you have a smoothbore AOW handgun or you have a shotgun (possibly short barrelled). An AOW is just that. It is an "any other weapon". It is not a shotgun so, shotgun regulations do not apply. If it is a SBS I'd have to go reread the laws but, I believe that standard shotgun regs would still not apply. I think they would be trumped by the fact that a SBS is considered a "firearm capable of being concealed". Therefore, handgun laws would apply as well your basic NFA laws.

For an AOW, you are right. For a shotgun, there is no 10 round fixed mag limit. A LEO, someone with a hi cap permit or anyone who happens to already legally have +10 round shotgun mags can legally use them on non NFA, semi auto, fixed mag shotguns without creating an illegal AW.

Even for someone who follows these things fairly often, it gets confusing. It's almost like you need to have a JD just to be a responsible gun owner in this state!

its still a CA-defined pistol, so it has to have a fixed-mag of <11-rounds, otherwise it would be a Pistol AW.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I thought anything semi auto shotgun wise with a pistol grip was considered a big no no ether way let alone explaining how a high cap drum that was made after 2000 got in the state or am I wrong

PGs are allowed on semi-auto shotguns, depending onthe configuration. consult the shotgun flowchart for more info. And for an AOW build, you have to comply with the pistol flowchart as well.
