    Shotgun cards vs Sidesaddle

    Cards:

    Sidesaddle:

I was set on a sidesaddle until I saw these velcro cards. Same function, much faster, cheaper & lighter as well. I figure you're not going to be loading rounds back into the sidesaddle under speed, so the elastic bands would work better, no shells falling out under fire either.

3 Gun Gear makes great products. I have been using their side saddle setup for over
        7 years in competition.

I've found that side saddles are good for an "oh s***! the gun is empty" moment when you need only a single shell to finish, but for action shooting where you are going to load 4 or 8 at a time (ppl with smaller hands 3, 6, or 9), you are really better off pulling shells in a block off of a belt rack. It is faster, and more positive.. With the double racks now available, though they are pricey, they seem to be a good solution over the old single racks..

I noticed while using my old 6 pack racks, that I had a tendency to grab 5 shells at a time instead of 3 or 4... I didn't drop shells, but it was awkward as heck trying not to drop them... and comical for the RO watching..

That Velcro is a nice touch. I made some out of an old shotgun bandoleer. Cut them to the sizes I wanted, rigged some 550 cord/Velcro at one end, fed it through the drain holes in the M4 pouches from the inside on my plate carrier, knotted them, loaded them and pouched them up. Very versatile. When you don't need them, untie and stash them.

Yank them out on-the-fly and load like mad. They won't go anywhere. I tabbed some Velcro on the PC so they were not flying around by the 550.

I just did some timed practice loading strong hand from gun and arm band and loading weak hand off the belt. For me both were about the same. Switching to pistol grip on the Salient and going to load weak hand, 3 at a time. Some shotguns are hard to load weak hand, Remington, some are very easy Benelli. Really want to see someone in person load the 2 at a time, European chest/belt rig.

I'm an A/B class uspsa shooter... A in Revo, B in the rest.. I've shot multi gun for a few years and I've been firing and hunting with a scattergun for over 30 years (started when I was 12). I had a velcro attached side saddle made by 3-gun gear and used it for about 5 years.. it holds either 8 or 9 rounds (can't remember right now). The gun, if no one knows by now, is a Browning Gold with the speed-feed feature. I timed myself at "shoot one, load 8, shoot 1 and found that the ammo out of the racks was faster by a few seconds over the side saddle.

I don't load weak handed for two reasons.. I don't have a pistol grip, and I don't have the wrist strength to support the Gold with said weak right handed wrist with a traditional stock. All of my loading is done via a modified Cooley flip and loaded with my strong hand. I thought I was fast off of the side saddle and found I was faster grabbing off of racks on my belt.. Having long fingers tends to help.. The mistake I make however is that since I have a 6 pack rack (3 of them) sometimes I grab 4, sometimes 5... I really need to get the double stacked 4 packs.. but currently the money is unavailable so I use what I have.. I have stopped using a side saddle for competition alltogether.. though I still use one while hunting since I sometimes leave the blind without my jacket (which contains all of my shells). I can put a couple of different loads on it depending on which critter I'm shooting at (BB for geese, 2's for large ducks, 3's for smaller ducks).

It simply works for me.. if you can't tell the difference, use what you have for now, get really good at it, and when you can't get any better, try something different.
