Suggestions for a 3 gun shotgun

I'm looking for a shotgun for light competition use. Any recommendations? I'm trying to stay below $700. I have looked at some used Benelli Super 90 M1's in that price range. What about a Remington 1100, FN or a used HK? Any help would be appreciated.

Benelli's are KING i bought my first M1 not knowing how good it was and had no idea how fast it shot and accurate just up graded to M4. you could chop up a beretta extrema also a bad azz gun lot of up grades for all three

Take a look at the new Mossberg 935SPX - looks to be a great shotgun for right around $400. There are a few out there and people really like them.

That said, the semi game seems to be one of big dollars and "tuning". You need to have the gas port dicked with if you shoot the Remington, you'll need to find a low recoil ammo that still cycles your Benelli, etc.

For $700 I would get a solid pump. They work all the time, if you have an issue you simply pump it to clear the action, and they don't care what ammo you run. Recoil on a 870 with a Limbsaver was less then the R1 Super 90 - I shot them back to back. A used (or even new) 870 Police, or Wingmaster (not the crappy Express) or a real Mossberg 590 would be a great start. You can get the 870 Police on gunbroker for under $500 all day long - NIB. Save the rest of your money for ammo. If you do some reading on the comp sights like brianenos.com you'll discover that the slowest thing in shotgun shooting is the reloads. The time difference between a non-expert shooter with a semi and pump are almost negligable when compared to the loading time of different shotguns.

One thing to consider is the Mossberg doesn't have a loading gate - they are one of the easiest shotguns to reload fast and with a little practice you can push 2 at a time in the tube.

Paradiddle how long does it take you to load a Mossberg?

Start low ready shoot a popper at say 10 yards then reload 4 rounds and shoot another popper at 10 yards?

Get a Remington 1100, they at least support the sport of 3 gun, you don't see much if any support from the two B's
Just keep the 1100 clean and oiled.
The Mossberg might be one to check out.

I have yet to see my 1100CM fail on me. Still have the original O-ring without issues. Just keep it clean and lubed at the right places and you'll be okay.

I have been happy to date with my 1100 tac 4. Heavy as hell but alot cheaper than a Benelli. I have shot trap extensively with another 1100 andf have never had a problem. My new tac 4 has seemed to shoot everthing just fine.

3 dram for fun matches, 3 1/4 dram for the big shows.
Shot is 1 1/8 when I can find it.

Three and a quarter man you are alot tougher than I am. With that load there's no worries about taking down the steel.

I try to use 2.75 dram and I will use 3 dram if I have too.

I just find it easier to change ammo than changing chokes all the time. 3 1/4 does knock down the steel.
We just had a steel challenge match with shotguns.
Poppers, 6 stages, 5 targets per stage, 5 runs per stage.
Over 150 rounds, the 1100 is a soft shooter, not a sore shoulder the next day.
