    Hornady SST Slugs

Sorry if this is a dupe, but has anyone seen or used these slugs?

I may want to pick up a box to try out...

If your shotgun has a rifled barrel, or a rifled choke tube, I think you'll find these to be accurate and very hard hitting on medium to fairly large game. They'll pattern tightly at 100 yards and even beyond with a proper gun and the shooter doing his part.

If your shotgun has a smooth bore, don't expect the same level of accuracy.

These are not HD rounds, IMO... if that was your intent.

these used to be the king for long range slug shooters, buut, they changed the design of the sabot and it now doesn't seperate clean. Kiss unheard of accuracy good bye!

Luckily, winchester and federal just put out some hardcore 2000 fps+ slugs for the testing!

They are great for longer ranges like around 200 yards but nothing close in like 50 yards. To much power and they will go straight through a deer and not expand at very close ranges. I've seen this happen on 3 deers so far, Set up was a mossberg with this barrel combo http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/21581-1.html (it's a 24inch fully rifled barrel for those who don't want want to click on the link) using the ammo listed above and all shots where shoulder shots. We had to follow the trail of blood a couple hundred yards to find our buck. But at longer shotgun ranges it's a DRT round, just stones them.

Great shotshell...but meant for rifled barrels.

I shot one through a bullet-proof vest - and it went through the vest, the 3/4" plywood, and two wet phone books.

It is a distance big game round.
