I just got back an old High Standard semi-auto that has had the barrel shortened. I grossly underestimated the front sight height needed. Turns out that I need a sight 0.185" high just to bring the top of the sight even with the top of the receiver - of course, it'd be nice to have a little more front sight to focus on. 
I don't want to drill any more holes in my barrel or send it off to have a front sight base sweated on - who's actually installed and used a clamp-on front sight on their shotgun, which one was it and how did it work for you?
