I got my first shotgun today, Remington 870. I got it BNIB from my FFL for $330. Good price? What should I do to modify it? Thanks.

Modify nothing yet. Shoot it for a few thousand rounds and break it in. If you start modifying stuff you could void the warranty so get some trigger time on it. If all is well in six months you can change out a couple small parts then.

Good price. Now get yourself a side shell holder. Also a rail setup and a good red dot could help.

"Modifications":
1. Break it down, remove/clean out any of the packing grease (receiver, barrel, mag tube, forearm rails, bolt, bolt carrier & any rails it rides on), re-oil, re-assemble.

2. Buy ammo: bird, 00 buck and slugs. Shoot it at the range to make sure it works every time you pull trigger

3. Replace safety with the Vang Big Head Safety

4. Replace mag spring with one from Wolff Gunsprings

5. Replace mag tube follower with one from S&J hardware

6. Replace front bead with a tritium glow in the dark bead

7. Butt cuff shotshell holder

8. Take a gun safety course followed by tactical shotgun training course

After you do the "modifications" above you'll probably not want to hang anything off your SG except maybe a sling and a Streamlight TLR-2s LED tactical light.
