    Mesa Tactical High-Tube Adapter

Anyone have any experience with the Mesa Tactical High-Tube Adapter for a Remington 870?
Was looking to swap the stock for a tactical stock and looking into the Mesa Tactical High-Tube version (AR style). I already have a rail picked out for the shotty but there is a rail that comes with the High-Tube Adapter (I do not want to use the rail that it comes with). Does that rail with the High-Tube adapter have to be installed? If I just buy the High-Tube adapter alone, will it mount ok without having to use the rail it comes with? Lead to any issues without the rail installed?
When I read the description of this item I always see the note: High-tube adapters cannot be used without rail-mounted sights of some kind - what does this exactly mean in detail, referring to the rail itself or sights, confused with the note?
Mesa Tactical designs and manufactures American-made, duty-grade firearm and shotgun accessories trusted by law enforcement and professionals.

I do not want the rail, possible to install without rail?

Will it work without the rail?

This picture shows it installed without the package rail connected but this is on a Mossberg 500, not sure if it'll work on the Remy870:

Your first pic is of a Winchester 1300 with the adapter. Comparing that rail to my 1300 reciever it has to be at least 10" long.

A lot of the picatinny rails I see are 5-6" long. If its shorter, then you will have less mounting options than the Mesa rail. I think your last pic answers all your questions...all the rail is there for is a sight/optics mount platform. You may also have a level problem unless the front of "your" rail matches the height of the Mesa rear adapter mount point.

I'm basing this only on your first pic of the adapter/rail on the 1300 which shows the rail raised off the reciever. Don't know if the Rem is the same setup. I'm wondering if that raised rail could be subject to bending with hard use. I would want a mount point at the rear of the reciever as well. Or, I would go with the rail option in the last pic.

Clarification, I'm assuming your are mounting your rail as the Mesa rail is mounted, to the rear mount point of the adapter.

Not sure if I asked the question right. But my question is if I already have a rail can I use the high tube stock without the rail it comes with?
But I think I found the answer to my question, it sounds like the answer is NO: http://www.mesatactical.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=752

the new mesa high tube adapters don't leave a giant gap in front/top of the receiver anymore either.

Yeah, I have an older high mount, and I had a custom piece made to fill in the gap and actually mount the rail to the reciever.

A Mossberg mount would not interchange with an 870. That's an interesting looking unit mounted, but it totally takes the Mossberg safety out of play. Can't say I'd want to put that on my gun.

Anyone have any feed back on the S2AR adapter?

Is this the new mesa high tube adapters for the Remington 870 you are talking about? Also if I don't use the rail, is there a plate to cover the holes where the screws go into?

I have the mesa LEO on my 870 and I had a mesa high tube adapter on my mossberg 500. I am not sure on the 870, but I would think the high rail system on the 870 receiver would be just as the Mossberg was.

On top of the mesa high rail adapter there is two threads in which the mesa long picatinny rail adapter bolts into. This rail is free floating over the receiver and does not touch or bolt in to the receiver at all thus providing no assistance to the adapter from a supporting perspective. The only thing holding the picatinny rail in place is the two allen bolts at the buttstock end of the receiver which attach onto the top portion of the mesa high rail adapter.

So going back to your question as to will the mesa high tube adapter work without using the provided picatinny rail. The answer is yes it should as the picatinny rail does nothing to help in support of the adapting tube to the receiver.

PM me with your email and I will send you pics of the mesa leo on my 870 and I can remount the mesa high tube adapter with the rail on my mossberg 500 and take close up pics to show you a close up picture of the set up from all angles.

Thanks for the info and offer to send me pics for a closer look. I have decided to go the route of getting the Mesa High Tube adapter. And I learned the adapter for the Mossberg and Remington has different looks.

Does the high tube allow for use of iron sights like the leo does?
