Mossber High Capacity Kit for the 500

I have seen these around. For $150 you get sights, and two more loads. My brother owes me $75 and has offered to give me his kit for the $$$ he owes me. He said he did not like how it made the 500 feel afterwards. He said in its original configuration it was light and responsive but after the conversion it felt tip heavy.

Does anyone have any experience with these?

Check me if I am wrong, but converting a 500 to a higher capacity would involve a new barrel and a new mag tube. The latter would require getting the original mag tube off the receiver and the new one reliably mounted. It can be done, but it's not a rookie job, IMO. The mag tube doesn't just screw in and out. Yes, it's threaded but it's in there solid, and I'd be concerned with denting or bending the new tube trying to bruno it in. Bruno will not work.

A longer mag tube is going to put more weight out front. That has an upside (better control, less muzzle flip) and a downside (gets heavy). I have a +2 on my 18.5 inch 870P and it does make a noticeable difference in weight and balance. My 500ATP is OEM with the shorter mag tube. It makes a good, fast package that I can swap barrels on to shoot clays or game birds but leave the 18.5 inch OEM on as a throw it in the truck and go shotgun.

Yes the kit comes with a new barrell and a mag tube. I have changed out both before on a mossberg. You just need a strap wrench for the mag tube. The put it in with red lock tight.

I am still on the fence about it. I really like my persuader as is. Sights and a few more loads may mess up its general feel. Plus $$$ is kind of tight right now I may just tell my brother to sell the kit and toss me the money.

I wish I could find some solid reviews on it but any Google search just turns up websites trying to sell me one.

Keep your 500 as you like it and pick up a 590 with the 20". Best of both worlds. They make pretty big gun safes, you'll be fine.

Yeah I decided to just stick my my 500 as is. Plus I recently got laid off and I really need $$$ right now as opposed to more accessories for my Mossberg.
