    remington 870...gun smith help please..

hey folks so I own a 870 wingermaster field, from somewhere in the 80's

Went clay shooting couple days ago and a friend of mine was taking couple shots, we were getting minor ejection problems, the shell would get stuck or not pop out all the way while the pump.

then a small metal piece came off, which I asked a nearby gun owner and told me its probably the ejector spring?

anyways I test fired the shotgun again, and it works fine but the same problem occurs, when its an unfired shell the shell pops out real nice, but once the shot is fired the shell barely makes it out or gets stuck.

I dont think its a major fix, but I would like to get it fixed and I havent been to a gunsmith or know of any.

Any places to go? I am in the Inland Empire but I do go down to Orange County several times a week.

    thanks

Yes, it is a Major fix and if someone has not done it before they can FUBAR the receiver.

The ejector spring is attached to the same rivet as the ejector. In some cases you can remove the spring and install a new one without having to replace the rivet. I am a little better then 60-40 in managing this. I have the right tools and a special jig made to hold the receiver. So about 4 out of ten times I end up having to replace the forward rivet. I then have to ground it down and reparkerize the receiver.

when you have to replace the complete rivet you end up having to have the receiver refinished if you want the original look. The rivets are bare and they will not be flush with the receiver. They have to be ground down flush and this of course FUBARS the finish. You can leave the rivet as is and cold blue it. I would on a truck gun or something used like that. However, if you have a nice blued Wingmaster be careful who you let do this. You should ask questions. If he does not describe the process as I have described it above then he does not know what he is doing. Ask him how many he has done and how many times he was able to replace the ejector spring without haveing to replace the forward rivet. If the person has not done this then find someone who has. Oh, and I would never promise anyone I can do this without replacing the rivet.

Use what I have told you to decide if the person can do this job. I do this for a living and I only work on Remington Shotguns so you are getting the facts here same as if you asked the factory.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.
