Used Mossberg 500 A questions

I was at the local gunshop today looking at the used rack and they have a mossberg 500a in 12gauge for sale for 270 otd, id never handled a mossberg before but the foregrip seemed wobbly side to side, I read this is normal? The barrel looks good but there are some seemingly odd wear marks inside the action, it does rack very smoothly though. Choke is unknown but id probably buy a set of chokes for it anyway. Also the shop owner told me I could get a mag tube extension for it but when I searched it appears you have to get a new barrel aswell from brownells? Primary use will be a back up/loaner gun for upland hunting, waterfowl and shooting clays, maybe HD if I get a mag tube ext for it.

U can typically find it for $270 + tax + dros brand new with the 18" cyl bore barrel and the 28" modified barrels. Yes the stock fore end on this it does wobble, its fine. no you cant do a mag extension beyond removing the wood dowel and getting 5+1 unless you buy new barrels. Not worth it IMHO. Its a cheap shotty, be happy with 5+1 or get something else.

yeah, you can buy a brand new one for that price at Big 5 + it will have a 28" barrel too. If you wanted a 7 shot( 6+1) Mossberg 500 with a 18" barrel, it can be done, but it will cost you.

oh good lord listen to the other posters, you can get a new gun for that price!!!! used it should be some what less then new! dont be a sucker, offer the 100 bucks or less (learn to haggle man)!

Yo!....If it's an older Mossberg with the dual arms on the forearm buy it. The newer single
arm guns wobble a LOT more.

If you pay attention, it's $270 OTD, which would put it around $220. But still, if you add in the price of an 18" barrel, then you're back up to the price of a new gun.

One thing to consider is how old is the used gun? If you plan on swapping fore ends, the combo guns from Big 5 require a new mag tube, so add in $60 there.

Huge fan of it.. I used to take it to the skeet range atleast twice a month for a long time.. Never cleaned it once until 3 weeks ago.. It was abused and neglected. Now after cleaning it it feels brand new again.. I have nothing but good things to say about mine..

its just a different model of the 500 series that has a shorter mag tube that only holds 5 rounds. The one you have is a security model.

the price is good considering you are talking out the door price which includes DROS fees and tax thats IMO a pretty good deal. The forearm wobbles but it does not mean anything. I have the older model and mine wobbles also. I've had mine for 17 years and i have had absolutely no problems.
I doubt you will find one much cheaper than that.

Ah makes sense.. I do have the 20" barrel. Love my 500a. Nothing but good things to say about it.

I just bought the same gun off this site for 240 and it is in amazing shape. You might want to keep looking around I'm sure you cam find something in better shape for a better price.
