Shotgun choice for 3 gun!!! Please help.

Hello all. I'm new to the 3 gun shooting arena, but I'm in the market and want some opinions and ideas to a great shotgun for 3 gun competition. From what I've heard and read, most people are shooting a Benelli or an FN SLP. The Benelli is a little out of the price range, but the FN is reachable.

Anyone who shoots 3 gun, please give me a heads up on something in the $500-1,000 range. Also, what do you think about rifled barrels vs smooth bore with a modified/imp cylinder?

Thanks for your knowledge and time.

do not buy a rem 870!!! unless you like losing. a f n slp with the smooth bore 22 inch bbl or a beneli m2 field with a 22 inch vent rib bbl is the hot ticket. hearing good things about mossbergs new semi auto. I shoot a winchester sx3 ( fn slp is the same gun)
remmington 1100 or 1187 for the budget minded can be made to work pretty well but they are not as reliable. hope this helps. go to the brian enos forum and search the shotgun board lots of three gunners on there. Taran Butler told me to buy a beneli m2 from salient arms. I didnt because I could not afford it! lol

        M2
        SLP MK1
Mossberg 930 Field with a few mods would be the best bang for your buck.

I chose the SLP MK1 smooth bore. YOU DO NOT NEED A RIFLED BARREL FOR 3GUN

$1000 for the base shotgun + $250 for chokes and other mods. $140 for CCW 4 rounder shotshell caddies.
Chokes,, I have Cyl, IC, LM, IM & Full. For me the LM stays on most of the time.
        Mods,,,
        Beveled loading port,,. Local gunsmith
Welded lifter, (your thumb will thank you) C-Rums
Shortened LOP by an inch,, Local gunsmith
Nordic Components Bolt Handle and big button bolt release. myself
Trimmed rear portion of the forend. myself
Trimmed off about an inch off the mag spring myself
        Polish inside of magtube. myself
Keep the action wet, keep the piston fairly clean, I let the piston soak in Simple Green for a day or 2, cleans it right up then apply oil. I have yet to shoot with the heavy piston.
Great shotgun, soft shooting, a little heavy, but when running a stage it is not noticable.

        Hope this helps

          +1 on what ironman5669 and prc77 wrote.
I started with an 870, then a Remington 1100 Competition Master for 7 years and now the Salient Benelli. Should of bought the Benelli 4 years ago when the Remington started to have its issues.
If you can't shoot good, at least look good shooting
