Decided to pull the trigger on an SXP

After doing a good bit of fondling, I decided to pull the trigger on an SXP for my shotgun. My other two shooters will just have to adapt.

I like its weight, balance, trigger, action, and most of all price. The lack of "mallninja" aftermarket actually pleases me.

Someday if I get overcome by tacti-cool urges I will look for a 12gauge AR patterned weapon and tacti-cool that.

When I get it out of jail, I will let you all know how it goes in use. Of course if I had more $$ and we were out of cali, I would probably get the SX3 instead of the pump.

An SXP or a Mossberg SPX? So many letters I'm having a hard time remembering who makes what anymore. I have an 930SPX and I love it. By all means let us have a range report when you get it.

Winchester SXP Defender. I believe the SX stands for super-x???? pump. The Winchester auto of the same line is the SX3.

I know its made in turkey but damn it just feels right and I love the way the pump actuates. Tried and true mossies and stuff just don't feel "right" out of the box for me though they are all excellent weapons. I am an odd duck, hate the feel of glocks, love the USP. I go for what fits naturally and well to me rather than based on popularity and history.

That in no way should mean low quality by itself...

I have always shied away from mossbergs -- first because they were long as second class remington and now because they are so in with the tacticool set...

In a turn of events, getting the mossburg. My change in stance altered my gun position and that meant the sxp was too long to actuate comfortably. Going with the adjustable stock version because comfort is king for practice and in my research I only found ONE adjustable stock for the SXP.

Sounds to me like you make your decisions well.

The funny thing was I bought the mossberg. The reason being the same. Going from a bladed stance to a Stage 1 stance altered the reach for the forward hand by 3". The result was that the SXP was unbalanced. While I may prefer the SXP action and WILL get one. I will have to purchase a smaller stock to pull the SXP back into spec.

I don't like too much reach, it unbalances the stance and slows your use of the pump. On an auto it wouldn't matter but on a pump its more critical. The SXP isn't off the table but the mossberg offered the initial compatibility with the stance and with my 3 shooters outweighed the better action of the SXP.

Function, fit, reliability. No matter how good your gun, if its a bad fit and you don't train with it... you won't gain the skill needed when it counts. The extra reach on the SXP pulled the gun off center and thats what killed it for me. Inches matter on a pump.

Lol, everyone must hate me but I tell ya. hearing the wife say I like this and feeling over-extended on the SXP really made the change right there in the store on order.

I am a picky bastard and like my rifles and shotguns short and compact.

It has to fit you. What may be fantastic for 99% is not right for the 1% if it doesn't fit.

Yeah, that is what gets me. Bladed up the SXP was ideal. I never considered a proper stance change would shift distance so much for "fit".

I was practicing the stance with my VZ24 for the past week. It fit perfectly. The reach for the foregrip was just right. Shocking considering when it was made and how the stance is recent. With the VZ in the proper position the natural point of aim on the VZ24 was dead inline with my pevlic facing. Not only that I find with the proper stance I can aim with both eyes open and still sight down the natural point of aim straight down the barrel.

The mossberg with the stock fully retracted fit about the same as far as foregrip distance as the VZ24. The SXP in the proper stance because of the distance for a proper grip on the foregrip caused the gun to point to the left, so it was too long. But oh what a difference 3" makes... SOLD!

I shot my new SXP Defender last weekend and it worked perfectly. I went to the store with intention of buying the mossberg but bought the Winchester.

ATI makes an adjustable stock for the new SXP Defender.

The gun is light weight and has a very solid feel. I like but I'd probably be just as pleased with the mossberg.
