Best shotgun for 3 Gun competition?

What's the best shotgun for 3 Gun? Pump or semi? Barrel length? Capacity? Chamber?

Predominantly, the Benelli M1 Super 90, 22" with chokes, capacity is division based, either limited or Open. Pump guns run in heavy metal division, and it also depends on whether you are talking outlaw 3 gun or USPSA multi gun. There are only a few of us that shoot 3 gun here. There are guys running Remington 1100's and 1187's, FN SLP's, Mossberg 930's, Remington 870's, Benelli M2-M4's, and Saigas in Open class.

The Benelli M2 (and the Salient modified version) are very popular these days, as are FN SLPs.

      My M2 is 21" with a +5 Nordic extension - lets me load 8+1.

As someone who started shooting 3 gun with an 870, then moved to a Remington 1100 Competition Master for 7 years, and now to the Salient Benelli. Buy the Salient and just get it over with. You will save yourself a lot of grief, and save a lot time spent cleaning your shotgun!

No, Semi-Auto is the way to go in 3 gun. They are faster, and if you ever have to shoot prone, which I have had to do, pumps are a problem compared to semi auto.
Also most gas operated semi auto shotguns shoot a lot softer than a pump.
The Benelli's are almost on par with a pump in my opinion. Still, I love my Salient.

all over SoCal, but they are not for the first time shooter, best to show up and watch how things roll. Check out some videos. And 3 gun is not cheap, expect to spend at least $1,500 for a shotgun and an AR-15, plus optics.

If you have the money, consider the FNH SLP :-)
If money an issue look into a gun simular to Patrick Flannigan's Mossberg 930 (not an spx) Sweet, looks like a 10 round magazine with a 24 or 26" ribbed barrel. Jerry Michlec (sp?) has gone over to Mossberg too. Looks like my neighborhood is improving.
I think the Benelli guys are starting to look over their shoulders now.

What shotgun would you want to use to defend yourself at home with? That would be my approach so that way you can learn the ins and outs of your weapon system that you might need someday to save your life.
RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.

                          HighLander51,
How do you like the pistol grip stock on the Benelli? I have the ConfortTec on my Salient,
Had been running the Remington Pistol Grip on my 1100CM and really liked it. High Cheek weld and worked good for my Williams Slugger Fire Sights. Comfort Tec is suppose to absorbe recoil. I do notice the recoil difference between my 1100CM and the Salient.I know Taran runs the pistol grip on his Benelli's. Are you shooting the 3 Gun Nationals in Vegas this year?

I and all my shooting buddies are top 20 guys and we (except one) shoot Benelli M2's with 24" barrels and standard stocks. All of us have Nordic tubes for a total of either 8 or 10 rounds depending on the match.

3GunFunShooter, I pretty much have to shoot a pistol grip shotgun because of my arthritis, can't really get a good hold on a straight stock. I will be at the Nationals. Maybe we can squad with TMC in the Top 20 Club...

Nordic tubes are nice because of the removal end cap, makes it easy to stuff that long spring back in.
