Here we go. The Remington 870 today is the exact same 870 as built in 1950 with only a couple modification. These are the Flex Tab and a couple SAMMI standards changed. People making statements that they are not built as well today can not tell you much about the weapon as to any SAMMI standards that changed or other minor changes in the design. They go to facts about polymer and MIM and have little to no understanding about those parts. They make a blanket statement like above yet, If you lay a 1970 Wingmaster and a 2011 Wingmaster they can not show you anything different in the quality of the weapon as there is none. If you stripped the finish off and coverd the engraving and laid any 3" receiver from any period and one from today they can not tell you which is which. Nor can I, as they are the same. Same as with the breech bolts if Flex tab bolts, same with the trigger plate assembly and the forend tube assembly. Same weapon today as then except for the improvement above.
This Mossberg -v- Remington think is over cooked. Either will serve you well and you simply need to go handle them and decide based on which you feel, not what some guy like me says on the internet, but which one you feel will fit your need. And yes, for me that is the Remington as I understand the weapons by design inside and out and know which one is going to serve me best.
Answers to this question will have little substance since most will answer with the weapon the prefer or own. Others will answer based on the controls of the weapon that they prefer. You are going to very little information of any value asking this question and need to get these weapons in you hands to decide. If you can get out and shoot them, then even better for you to decide.Last edited by aippi; 05-02-2011, 9:11 AM.JD McGuire, Owner

Get the one on sale.
Don't give yourself 'analysis paralysis' trying to figure out anything else.It cannot be inherited, nor can it ever be purchased.
You and no one alive can buy it for any price. It is impossible to rent and cannot be lent.
You alone and our own have earned it with...Your sweat, blood and lives. You own it forever.
The title is....."United States Marine".
