Over/Under For Trap, Skeet, Sport

I need advice on a good quality over/under for trap, skeet, and sporting. I'm thinking under $1000. I've looked at the Browning Citori's but they're way out of my price range.

Are there any good quality over/unders available for a working stiff like me?

Should I stick to a 12 gauge or would a 20 gauge be a better choice?

Well, $1,000 don't buy much in the over and under world.
If your not recoil sensitive go with 12 Ga.
Shells are more plentiful and cheaper.
If your looking for a deal try pawn shops. Sometimes you can score a nice gun hardly used.

Kinda what i was saying is if your going to drop a grand buy a name brand.
For numerous reasons. Heck five years ago i spent $1,300 for a single shot.
But it was a BT99.
Also try trapshooters.com Most is going to be used, But quality for the type of shooting you said.

I am happy to report that CDNN has changed their policy regarding shipping firearms to CA.

Now, they will ship rifles, shotguns and even handguns to CA.
Obviously, no "assault rifles" and no "unsafe" hanguns.

You can do very well for $1,000 if you shop wisely for a used gun. Look for a Winchester 101 or Browning GTI. The GTI is a plainer competition shotgun, and 101's come in many grades. I did a quick gunsamerica search on 101s and there were a couple skeet 101's for $1,000. Over unders can handle many many thousands of rounds without showing wear. I've got three 101's and recommend them highly. None have ever missed missed a beat after reloading many AA case until they fell apart.

You're looking for a compromise gun, Skeet barrels tend to be 26-28", trap barrels 32"+, so 30" would be ideal. Look for something with interchangeable chokes, and you have a do it all O/U and a fine hunting weapon.

Honestly I shot just as well with my $400 Spartan 310 as I did with a $1000+ Citori. I really didn't notice that much of a difference shooting wise. Quality wise, yeah, the difference was clear. Honestly, even if I had the money to blow on a nice O/U, I don't think I would. I'd still buy my 310 and use the extra money for extra rounds at Coyote Creek.

My best suggestion on a good o/u is to check in at the trap range. There are always old codgers selling shot guns. I have bought a few this way and they have been some of my best shot guns.

Old time shotgunners are the last people you want to deal with if you don't know much about shotguns, they are a sharp bunch. Besides why would you want to by a gun thats had tens of thousands of shell put through it by some old trap shooter. The only time the gun probably locks up tight is when it been shot a hundred times and the metal has swollen from the heat.

An used old pump is better than a used old SxS or O/U.

There's a quote that makes me laugh! Tankerman and I have differing opinions here, that is no doubt. I buy AAs 2500 at a time, and reload the cases up to 8 times before they start to split. I bought my Winchester 101s used and my Remington 3200s used. I've treated them well and they lock up like new.

The nice thing about spending a grand on a used gun is you can sell it for a grand if you treat it well.

I have a Browning Citori skeet 20 ga 26" with about 500 rnds down it I'm selling. It's LNIB with ported barrels and olympic wide trigger which is all
stock from the factory.Let me know and yes I'll sell it for under 1k. I've owned 5 citori's and they offer high value for the dollar. Just my .02

I have to dissagree with you. You can find some very nice buys on guns that have not ben shot much. I have bought more than my fair share of shot guns that were NIB and that had sat in the back of a safe for years. There are very good deals to be had.
