Knoxx Spec Ops stock update..Gen II

I don't remember seeing a comment on this in the threads but if its been mentioned I apologize and will remove, if possible.

I wanted to buy a Knoxx so I asked them if a new stock would be coming out soon (didn't want to be stuck with an "old model"). Here's John's reply:

    Don,

Thank you for your interest in BLACKHAWK! We will be introducing our Generation II Knoxx SpecOps Adjustable shotgun stock around August of 2011. It will only be available at first for the Remington 870 and the Mossberg 500 series. Since it is still in planning phase; we are not yet able to take orders for the item. Be sure and check back with us soon, since we will be taking orders for them very soon. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I will be happy to assist.

    Best regards,

A major issue with the current SpecOps is should a shooter fight the stock and cause it to jump, the cam spring can jump the pin. I hope this was the major change and they now have the springs attached with eyes and not hooks that can jump off. As when this happens the stock can not be repaired by the end user and has to go back.

I have three that are FUBAR in this manner. I simply replace them to the client and eat the loss as I will deal not deal with Black Hawk. Any other modification may be cosmetic and simply to regenerate sales. It is a proven fact in retail to simply change the look, call it new and improved and people buy it. Even when the item they have is working fine they have to have the new one.

I am very curious to see this so called new and improved SpecOps. I was an original Knoxx Dealer and hated it when Blawk Hawk bought them out. Been down hill since.

Thanks for that info aippi. I have been on the fence about the Knoxx and your particular insight is very helpful.

What's your opinion on the Kicklite from Phoenix? It's the only other recoil option I was considering and the few reviews on that don't look too exciting. I might just end up with the Hogue 12" LOP stock!

Gauge - Hope you did not misunderstand. I use the SpecOps and have for years. I even have the ones Black Hawk produces. My personal 870 slug gun and my 870 turkey gun have SpecOps stocks on them. The stocks work and and even feature them on some of my custom models. The issues are design and shooter error. It is when a shooter does not use the stock correctly and fights it that the malfunction occurs. If Black Hawk improves the design then even better. I have no faith in them to do this and think this is just more Marketing mess and a design change in appearance only. Hope I am wrong as I want to continue featuring this stock on my weapons.

I have no knowledge of the one you are asking about. I use the Mesa with Endine and feature it. I will look into other systems as I am always looking for accessories to offer more to my clients. However, I can't see any system being better then the Mesa LEO with Endine for a fighting shotgun and that is all I build.

Actually same price as the old one. At the SHOT show I spoke to the Product Manager from Blackhawk about this very thing. Originally they were supposed to release this past March and I have had one on order since I saw it. Add a Limbsaver pad to the stock, change in the springs, and now 7 adjustable positions instead of 5. Love the new stock, way better then the old one and well worth the wait after comparing both side to side at the show. Really wish they would ship already!!!!

I received a Blackhawk! 2011 catalog last Saturday and the Gen II stock is pictured and advertised with a catalog number, but it isn't listed on the website. It is listed for $135 and the camo version is $160. Just order a catalog from their website like I did, it is really easy and fast.

Does it look like the original? What are they saying they changed? I am only interested in improvments to the cam springs as this is the main failure of the stock.

I would guess (and safely) there is not reason to buy a new this one if you already have one. Wait till the one you has fails. Could be quite a few years if you are shooting it correctly. I have yet to wear one out.

The look and fit are the same. The Product Manager said they changed a bit on the springs internally but I didn't get specifics. From what I understand, people had trouble with the springs coming undone or broken so they had to fix that portion. Also they said that it actually reduces felt recoil a bit more and less cheek slap. That last portion could be marketing hype. TGD has the stock number in their system and I have pestered them and Blackhawk each week waiting for an update on shipping date since I want one for my Maverick 88.

thanks D-man as that is what I was hoping to hear. This is a great stock when used correctly and the spring issue was the only flaw and the one that has cost me money by having to replace these stock when I client FUBARS it on one of my Tactical Builds. In defense of the product it is the user that causes this by fighting the stock. However, manufacturers have to build products that are able to stand up to reasonable user error. Sounds like they are addressing this issue and greatly improving an already great product.

Of course I will believe it when I see it, and once they start shipping! Can't wait to get that stock on my truck shotgun. Oh well to pacify myself, guess I will have to go Duracoat my old Western Field M172 (Mossberg 395K) to help pass the time.
