S12 bolt hold open

So I was looking at both of my Saiga 12s ( one is actually going to be a gift for my father in law) and I noticed a difference in my bolt hold open and receiver. My S12 came with a bolt hold open but the guy that installed the mag lock said that he had to pull it out in order to install the mag lock. I was able to get the pieces he took out and brought them home.
I took a look at my second S12 and noticed that the BHO was still installed and that the receiver was not notched like mine. The only difference between the two S12s are:
Mine: 19 inch barrel and was imported by Legion
Father in Law's: 24 inch barrel and was imported by RAA

How old is 19"? The only reason I ask is some of the newer imported saigas have a last round bolt hold open feature on them. The button to release the bolt is part of the mag release. Maybe you have this http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?...lrbho-for-630/. That is the only reason I can think of taking out BHO to install a mag lock. Maybe someone else with more S12 experience can chime in.

yeah...the last round BHO is a new feature and needs to be removed in order for most maglocks to fit. the difference is when it was imported

The 19" has to be a later model since it was imported by Legion. From what I understand the original Saigas were imported by RAA and for some reason they stopped importing them (I don't want to spread fud, so I will not speculate why) When searching for an answer before posting this I actually came across that Saiga 12 forum thread but due to how the BHO and the mag release looked, it threw me off a bit.

I won't lie, I am so used to seeing S12's and AK clones with mag locks on them, that when I looked at my mag release I didn't consider the fact that the mag release is not housed in a metal shroud like it is on a standard AK platform. It pretty much is right there in the open.

Thanks. I think when I do my conversion, I am going to pop it back in and figure out a new style of mag lock.
