If you want a surprise try squirting a little floor wax stripper down the barrel, you'll see the plastic lift off the surface. Make sure you remove and relube your choke tubes, wax stripper is water based.

I think I'm mildly OCD and tend to over-do cleaning jobs, so I wanted to make sure I had the proper tools to keep human error to a minimum.

I'll be using aippi's method and maybe try that floor wax stripper.
