Answer my own question for others that may be interested. Yes, it is the 500. I bought one and started the 11 day wait. Tick Tock...NRA Life Member

GTG!
You can't go wrong with the Mossberg combo...cheers!
My first SG was the same deal from Big 5 ten+ years ago...it's still a great shooter that I loan to my buddies/trade off with when out shootin' clays.

I have an old SemiAuto JC Higgins and a couple single shots, but wanted a newer shotgun and "needed" a pump... :-) I was considering the Maverick 88, but when I saw this combo I just could not pass it up. Glad to hear I made the right choice!!
Thanks CalGuns team!NRA Life Member

I wanted a beater shotgun to pop rabbits and squirrels around my place. I have a ton of 20ga ammo, so started looking. A customer of mine said he had a Mossberg 500 20ga he'd sell cheap, so I bought it.
It's too nice a gun for what I wanted, so I put it in the house for wifey and bought another beater single shot.
Great gun you bought.Rule #1 - The Boss Is Always Right

I took advantage of this deal as well last week. The box refers to the shotgun as a 500. The Big 5 combo differs from the combo you'll find on Mossberg's website in two ways, as far as I can tell: it has a synthetic stock and forend rather than wood, and the 28" barrel is a fixed modified choke rather than being threaded to take different chokes.
After I made the purchase I checked prices in several local gunshops and concluded the $289 would have been a great deal even with just one barrel; the extra barrel makes the deal extra sweet.Comment

You won't have to wait long. Big 5 has them on sale every 2-3 weeks.Comment

IIRC, the Big 5 combo Mossberg doesn't have a Mossberg action slide assembly with the action bars attached to the slide tube. It is a 88 Maverick slide assembly and it has no slide tube. The action bars become a piece of the pump handle. Its a close call, The price is great for a starter, but if you might want to change chokes, say to shoot skeet, you may regret not getting a regular Mossberg or even a Remington 870.Comment

Since 2006, most new 500 sporting shotguns with synthetic forearms (not only the Big 5 combo) may not use an action slide tube. If you have one of these, you cannot replace the forearm with one that was designed to go over an action slide tube without first buying the correct length tube and action slide tube nut.
Other newer Mossbergs have the slide tube, but the slide tube nut is inaccessible. To replace the forearm on these models you have to either buy another tube and nut or destroy the existing forearm (carefully) to remove it and expose the tube and nut.Comment

They get cheaper here and there, good buy.... it's been mentioned like a dozen times today in the forums too.
