help finding a good over and under please

i tried trap shooting for the first time today with my dad, we went through 2 rounds. it was fun, but really really hard. i probably need REAL instruction for this, but it was fun. anyways...

i was looking into getting a real over and under once in my life. i have a pump action Rem 870 for hunting jackrabbits and stuff, but i want a dedicated target shotgun if i ever want to be good at busting clays.

i was looking into Beretta or Browning. specifically a 12 guage. nothing fancy, but something that works well. also, if i feel like it, something that i could take to the field with me to do some bird hunting.

any ideas or models i should specifically look at as an entry level over and under shotgun.

Do you want to spend more, or less, than a grand? the skys the limit in choices above four digits...new and or used..

I started shooting trap a few years ago with a Mossberg 500 combo, and after a year went with the Stoeger Condor Competition for $600 out the door. It's a 12 gauge O/U with ported barrels and an adjustable comb. I shoot trap at least monthly (need my gunpowder therapy) and go through 3 - 4 boxes a visit for the last two years....with zero issues.

Take him up on it. There is no better way to make a decision than to try the different options before putting down the money.

Yup. I learned a crapload from his last skeet clinic. If you could take one of his classes you should...

I don't know much about O/Us, but the Citori is a seriously sweet piece. I always rent one when I got bust clays.

In the area or not, definitely take The Feeder's advice and check out as many different guns as you can. Buying the first gun you see that looks like it might work can wind up costing many extra $$$ in fitting down the road. Starting with a gun that is fairly close to a good fit will save money in the long run.

The Stoeger Condor Competition is a good deal price wise. They can be had for ~ $600 if you shop around. There were some knocks on them for quality early on, but they've improved a good bit over the past couple of years. They still aren't an investment gun quality, like a Browning, Beretta, or a Cesar Guerini but they seem like good entry level guns to learn on.

Also at a sub $1K price point is Tri-Star. These are Turkish made (as are CZ guns), but I've read a number of good reviews. Haven't handled one yet, but I've been prowling around to see if anyone in my area has one that I can at least throw up to my shoulder a few times.
