Shotgun buying question

Shot alot of trap and skeet almost 40 years ago. Still have the shotguns...
winchester 101 single barrel, remington 870 tc, and remington 1100 trap grade.
Nice, but time and technology seems to have passed them by (interchangable
chokes, recoil reduction systems and backbored barrels).

So, my question is: Is it realistic to have one shotgun which will pretty
much do the job for alot of different things these days?
I was thinking of an over/under...27 inch barrel with interchangeable chokes.
Something of a sporting clays model?

Or is this like asking if there is one pistol that does it all?

Yea, it's like asking if there's a do all handgun.

There have been shotguns with adjustable chokes for over well 50 years so, screw in chokes aren't that hi-tech. But, if you want a gun with screw in chokes, you can alway either have your barrels modified to accept them or buy a new barrel for your 1100.

Now, if you just want an excuse to buy an O/U, by all means, your the reasons you've listed.

it's quite hard to get something that does everything......

trap guns have higher/raised rib (sights) cause most targets are flying up. skeet and sporting clays have sights that are close to the barrel.

over/under's are the way to go if you're serious about shotgun sports. I'll stay away from trap guns cause you can only do trap shooting with it. 30-in, for me, is the minimum length for sporting clays and with this length, you can swing very smoothly for everything. A good skeet or sporting clay gun with a 30-in barrel can do all three: trap, skeet, and sporting clays (and of course you need to raise your eye sights a little bit for trap).

btw, in order to be able to do all 3 sports, you need a gun that you can change the chokes....(don't get a gun with fixed choke)
