Removing side saddle off Moss 500

I bought a used Mossberg 500 awhile back and it already had a Tacstar shell holder. I want to remove it as it loosens up and I'd rather have a velcro style holder.

The bolts that replace the pins to hold the saddle protrude through the action and I don't have the old pins. Can you buy replacement pins or should I just remove the pins and cut them down?

If the pins still work after being cut down I would just use that.

If they wont work or you just dont want to do that

    Trigger housing pin

    Ejector Screw

I do believe the trigger pin and the ejector screw is all thats needed right?

Looks like they would still work, but would having the bolt in there vs the pin do any harm in the long run?

Just keep the bolt tight and I really don't think it would be a problem

you can't keep the bolt tight it threads into the TacStar plate. Just call Mossberg they might send it out for free

well the ejector one is a screw but the trigger one looks to be a pin originally

Without the backer plate installed, the screw through the trigger group can not be used. If you are going to take the sidesaddle off, you need to replace the pin.

If Mossberg won't send one out (which I find doubtful as they've always been good when I've needed a part), you can search the part houses for a Mossberg 500 trigger housing pin. Numrich and Brownell's both have out of stock on them, but if you look around some you should be able to find them.

I can hook you up with both items and I'll throw in some velcro. N/C

I would not bother to cut the pin down, the parts you need are practically worth pennies. The factory pin has retention because it has rolled ends with a groove cut into it. Cutting them down without getting the retention just right will probably yield a loose fit that continues to loosen with recoil. Getting the retention wrong could start to damage the firearm. Mossberg probably would send the parts out free if you email them.
