The MK1 is a little heavy, easy to break down and clean, and a very soft shooting shotgun. They like to be run wet.
I have not handled the 18" version.

If you are in the market for a shotgun, check out the Salient Benelli M2. Light, fast,
ready to run. There was one at Richmond yesterday. Also the Mossberg 930 is up and coming. Benny Hill is doing his magic on them. Lot of excellent information over at the Brian Enos forums on competition shotguns.

I did get to shoot Tom's Salient M2. First thing I thought was, its so much lighter than the SLP. Second thing, its so much more money than my SLP.
It was the first time I got to shoot an M2 and hopefully not the last.

I shot Tom's when he first got it. SHOULD NOT OF DONE THAT!.
Ordered one the next day. My 7 year old 1100CM was had let me down too many times,
especially at the 3 Gun Nationals. Almost got the FN SLP, but wanted the factory pistol grip model, I was told by FN that it would be out by the end of 2010, have not seen it yet and after shooting the Salient had to get it. Still learning to load weak hand from doing it strong hand, Cooley flip for 7 years.

Since its lighter, how much more perceived recoil do you notice?

I can really tell a difference between my Salient and my 1100CM when I was comparing them. But, when I was practicing shooting a stage I just noticed how fast it was and
that I did not have to worry about it jamming. I also got a shorter recoil pad and the gun fit me much better and percieved recoil was reduced. To be honest it is not that bad once you get use to it. I also can run Wincherster lite loads 2.75 dram in the Saleint v/s the 3.25 dram I had to run in my Remington to get it to function. Just need to see how the Win Lite does on steel plates and poppers.
