If it is 10 rds, I wouldn't see any problem. just make sure it is TEN rds, no more, no less (well... I suppose you could have less than 10 rounds, but what then would be the point of the drum?)

theres no problem with having more than 10 rounds. legally obtaining such is another story, but there is no capacity limit for shotguns.
*anyone could be typing these messages, and probably not while under oath.

excuse me, yes this is true. I just automatically assume you're not going to legally get a "hi cap" (I gotta stop doing that)

@OP if you happen to find a 10+ capacity, mag or drum go ahead and use it(dont flaunt it though as it could cause unwanted LE attenion). just make sure YOU dont import it or build it. And if you do happen to find one, or someone gives it to you do NOT give it to another CA resident, or sell it to another CA resident. sell it out of state

What about the maglock and a 10+ drum?

It would be legal however there has been some debate on drums on shot guns. The Spas 12 is a shot gun that's banned and atf debates no revolving cylinders it is another gray area . I don't know if the ATF will say that meets the revolving cylinder.

thats an issue with centerfire rifles.

                  Uhhh... no.

The spas 12 does not have a drum or a cylinder. The striker would be the shotgun with a revolving cylinder, it does not have a drum. A cylinder is just like what you would find on a revolver. It contains a series of chambers that rotate and the rounds are fired from. A drum is still a magazine. There is absolutely no gray area with this, just some people who don't understand the difference. Also, the ATF only cares about the import on shotguns "that have no sporting purpose"(which is how they banned the import of the striker, spas 12, etc.). CA has an outright ban on shotguns with a revolving cylinder(like all of those recent Rossi and Taurus models).

You CANNOT have a maglocked RIFLE with a hi cap magazine. You CAN have a maglocked shotgun with a hi cap magazine.

The only problem is legally acquiring a "hi cap" mag. which in Cali is almost impossible for the "little man"

Is it illegal for someone to give you a hi cap drum; even if they illegally acquired it?

For example; my friend illegally imports a few MD 20's; then decides he made a stupid mistake and wants to get rid of the evidence...by giving them away. Would that be illegally attained???

                        From PC 12020
12020. (a) Any person in this state who does any of the following is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or in the state prison:
                        (2) Commencing January 1, 2000, manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or who gives, or lends, any large-capacity magazine

And it's entirely possible that they'd try to nail you on some sort of conspiracy charge for being the recipient.

As the saying goes "two wrongs don't make a right" and in this case your buddy would have broken the same PC twice. Time to find new friends.

Conspiracy charge huh? Well that sounds unlikely.

Ive heard one way to legally attain a high cap is for someone to unwittingly sell you one. Yes they broke the law unwittingly, but you didnt because PURCHASING is not forbidden in the law. Just like RECEIVING is not forbidden. Unless the very act you are doing is covered in the PC then I think its not illegal.

I never said whether or not it was likely to happen, I said it was possible. Then again the court has to prove you didn't ask them to give/sell you the things in the first place, and with the idiotic scenario you described(who the hell disposes of evidence by simply giving it to someone else? that still doesn't change the fact that a crime occurred when your buddy illegally imported the magazines) it might not be that difficult. Sitting here posting your explanations of how you plan to acquire high capacity magazines on a public message board read by law enforcement isn't exactly brilliant either.
