930SPX or S12?

I've got a tax refund burn'n a hole in my pocket.
I've wanted an S12 ever since I missed out on the first group buy, but then I started looking at the Mossberg 930SPX.
I've been weighing the plus's and minus's in my head on each for a couple days now. The gun will primarily be a home defense weapon.

I like the versatility of being able to switch back and forth from slugs to buckshot quickly with the spx. I know, slugs are not an ideal inhome load, but I have a very large yard, and if I had to abandon the home stead and go on the road they could come in handy.
I also like the thought of not being hassled by some gungho ranger or leo ill informed on the actual law.
I like that I can learn to quickly reload the spx as well.

Then again, the S12 is just so sexxxy.
I've been running my wasr 2 with a monsterman grip so I'm not too familiar with how easy or hard it is to manipulate a bullet button.
I may be wrong, but it seems like if I had to shoot an intruder with an S12 vs. a 930SPX, some overzealous prosecutor would have an easier time of painting the S12 as a pure killing gun; sort of along the lines of the argument about using you're own reloads for home defense vs. store bought ammo.

I'm leaning towards spx now, then S12 someday when we're not hobbled by the bullet button.

S12s are fun to have and fun to shoot but it is no home defense gun.

BTW my home defense gun is a Mossberg pump.

In almost any other state, I'd say S12. But in CA, you won't be able to reload in a defensive situation. The 930 is a fun gun to shoot, and you can top off and reload as you go. If you have any patience, the KSG is showing a lot of promise IMO.

At this point in time you will have to put up more money for a S12 due to everyone snatching them up like crazy and thats if you could find one. I like both but I would say Mossberg.

Where reliability is concerned, pump is king. They aren't jam proof, but they are pretty close to it. Another reason I've heard people cite for choosing pump over semi for HD is the cost of a weapon that will be effectively forfeited if it is ever used for its intended purpose.

Have you see nwhat a 10-12 round mag for the s-12 looks like? might as well throw it at them.

I don't think I would recommend the S-12 to anyone for HD. I love mine and it's a fun gun to shoot, but my goto HD shotgun is a Remington 870 pump. The one very nice thing about a pumpgun for HD is the very distinct, "I mean business" sound of the CHK-CHK - it pretty much means you're ready to take 'em on and maybe you'll get lucky and actually not have to.

Anyway, between the two: 930 SPX.

The S12 has a major downside with slow reloads once the mag is empty... I used a Winchester 1300 Defender as home defense shotgun for years (I know - dating myself) until I got introduced to shooting on the move. From this perspective, a semi-auto makes much more sense.

It also allows for faster follow-up shots in case you have to deal with more than just one opponent.
As far as keeping reloads handy is concerned, I really like the carriers that Minuteman Gear makes. The carriers are staggered and you can fit a lot of rounds onto relatively little real estate.

Pair that with a bag that has velcro on the inside and you have a great go-to-bag stocked with well-organized rounds.

In the time it takes to reload a 930 SPX back up to its 5 round max, I (and mostly anyone with some practice) can manipulate a mag-lock fast enough to switch a 5, 10 round mag or a 20 round drum. If I was that concerned about reloading a shotgun fast enough then I wouldn't look any further than a S12.

I personally had issues with the Mossberg 930 SPX and went the Benelli M2 route instead. The Benelli has been completely reliable and accepts a whole host of ammo types. I couldn't go too long without my SPX jamming on me for some reason.

Thinking I'm going to go with the spx.
I read of some having issues but they all seem to be something that either works itself out after break in or the factory can fix.
