Prado vs Triple B

I live in Covina and want to try Trap and Skeet shooting, which of these shooting parks do you guys recommend or like better and why? Do either of them have a patterning board? Any other places near me I should check out as well?

You should go to Burro Canyon (15 Minutes away from you) with a buddy or a clay launcher and shoot clay over at the tables in the pistol/shotgun range. It'd be much cheaper, I do it all the time.

Doing it with hand launchers just is not the same as having a bird thrown by a launcher at a high rate of speed away from you (trap). With a hand launcher there is no way you can duplicate the high and low house doubles of skeet and you also will not get the speed.
But, yes, you're right shooting over a launcher, or hand thrown will be cheaper.
Shooting skeet or trap with the proper equipment is far more challenging than using hand or mechanical launchers.

I have only seen pictures of Prado. I have shot at Triple B's, however, and the facilities there are top notch.

Both are great spots, but I prefer Trible B's, great spot, lots of different angles, just make sure its not too windy when you go.

I totally agree with you on that man, its just not the same. I was just trying to save the guy some time by heading to a range that is closer.

Been to Triple Bs multiple times. If ysr racer is available, maybe he'll take you out to shoot some sporting clays. or go and take a lesson from Don...top notch instructor and only $20 for as long as you want.

Either place is great. It sure beats having to manually throw your own clays. Plus, you get to shoot with others (more experienced) and you can learn from them.

Also, if time permits, consider Redlands Shooting Park. A bit longer drive, but talk about a top notch place to shoot. Either way, just go shoot!!!

Did someone say "sporting clays" ?

The differences between TBC and Prado are huge.

TBC has Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, 5-stand, Bunker, a practice field, a restaurant, and a Pro-shop.

Prado has Trap, Skeet, 5-stand, rifle and handgun ranges and had a small clubhouse/pro-shop last time I was there.

TBC is MUCH busier and much more regimented. Prado is less crowded and more relaxed. There's been many a time I've had a range to myself at Prado.

That being said, if you're new to the clay shooting games, take the $20 skeet intro at TBC, but keep in mind if you become a serious trap or skeet shooter, I will have to make fun of you

I don't know how it was before the heavy rains at the end of last year, but Prado was under water for some time (its in the flood plain for Prado Dam) and while all the fields are back on line, the pro shop starters office consists of what was the LawEnforcement trailer. I will continue going there because it is half as far a drive for me than Triple B, but I would rather shoot the B. Still, it was definitely worth the extra drive to take Coach Don's intoductory skeet class at B and I may do it again.

The patterning board @ Triple B is suppose to be a members only thing though I've never been questioned while using it but I am a member so who knows.

the board @ Prado is open to anyone as I don't think they have memberships.

As for the better facility, I'd give the edge to Triple B but there is nothing wrong with Prado. Triple B is biased towards sporting clays IMHO but the trap & skeet fields are well maintained and throw great targets.

My favorite is Redlands though for a whole host of reason. The biggest reason is $ 5 Tuesdays where a round of trap or skeet is only $5 compared to $ 8.50 @ Triple B. The other is they don't care about barrel length on the shotgun. I saw a guy a couple of weeks ago shooting trap with a pistol grip pump. He was having fun. I saw a guy get turned away at Triple B for a HD shotgun because the barrel was too short.
