So I bought a new fore-end with rail and pistol grip for my Remington 870. The new piece is snug but for some reason my action now sticks at about half way and will not go all the way back (stops firmly just short of its full motion). I am sure I reassembled correctly, anyone know what's going on here or how to fix this? Is it just a POS part? Could the prongs on the fore end be contacting something in the trigger assembly or something? Thanks,

New Fore end making 870 action stick?

If you torqued or sprung the action bars (the prongs) out of line doing the install, that would make things work much harder.
However, if the bolt only goes back halfway and stops, you may not have the bolt carrier set on the action bars correctly. Disassemble and then put it back together again paying attention to how it goes together.

Hmm. I was careful not to bend the action bars but it looks like the right one is contacting the rightmost silver piece on the trigger assembly (I believe it's called the carrier dog). I wonder what I should do about this. The bolt carrier should hold the action bars far enough apart to clear everything so I think the carrier dog needs to be snugged inwards and held there somehow.Comment

Never, put a vertical forend on a pump shotgun as this acts as a lever and over torques the action bars. Your forend has or will FUBAR your weapon.JD McGuire, Owner

Why would they friggin make them then? ARGH! What a fail. Is there a way to fix the action bars or do i need a new part?Last edited by Connacht07; 03-02-2011, 4:09 PM.Comment

They make them because they look cool and people buy them.
I don't know that your action bars are damaged yet. Pull the forend tube assembly off. Hold it up in front of you with the action bars pointing at you. Are they straight? If they are not twisted then you are OK. But keep that vertical forend on that pump and within a few months of shooting those action bars will be twisted and damaged.
Put the regular forend back on the forend tube assembly and if the weapon racks smoothly you are OK. If not then there is an issue and damage.JD McGuire, Owner

Yeah reinstalling the old fore-end does not fix the problem, though the action bars look straight. The problem is that the action bar bends around the inside release lever rather than the other way around. Thank you for your help. I only hope I didn't damage the trigger assembly as well. I guess I will order a new part.Last edited by Connacht07; 03-02-2011, 5:12 PM.Comment

I can not imagine that even being possible but since you say it is doing that I guess I am lost as to how or why. Good luck.JD McGuire, Owner
