Remington Spartan Redo

Just an FYI for anyone interested. I bought a Remington Spartan from Calguns Member Bull Elk. Spartans are made in Russia and have nice features for a gun that originally sells for about $500 but for that price, they’re not known for their finish. Though it didn’t have many miles on it, I thought I’d redo the wood. Here is the before and after. I stripped, stained with Minwax Red Mahogany, and finished with Minwax Tung Oil. It’s what I had around the house.

The tungoil could use a bit more steel wool polishing to bring out the luster though IMO.

I actually like the wood on my SPR 310 which is a close shade match to your 'before'. It's a good heavy walnut with a nice figure. The red mahogany is nice, with the blued receiver. I'm not sure it would look as good with the in the white receiver on my gun.

Agreed. The color wasn't bad it was just splotchy and uneven like it had been applied by a political prisoner in a Siberian gulag. I was looking for something more like a Russian Red from Lancaster AK's but the Red Mahogany didn't do it. At all. Live and Learn.
