    Which way with shell holder?

Hi, new poster needs your expertise. I have an 870 that came with a UTG saddle rail. Seems pretty decent even though some people don't like UTG stuff. I have had other saddle rails before with no issues but I want to carry extra shells. The receiver is tapped so I could go with a bolt on rail and a Velcro shell holder OR go with the Mesa saddle rail with the shell holder. What have you and why do you like your set up. If you like the Velcro holders, which one is good?

I have an elastic saddle that slides over the stock. It's made by Allen and I got it on Amazon for around 5 or 6 bucks out the door. What I like about it most was how much it cost me. A couple other things that are nice are that it is one size fits all, can adjust it easily, etc... On the other hand I don't know if I would trust my life to it for home defense. I use it just for when we go shooting in the desert or other recreational shooting. A good thing to do would be to buy and try different things and find which works best for you and sell off or return whatever you don't want. Hope you find something that suits you.

Thanks d sauce, I have had those before. I have also had the TacStar brand that bolts onto the receiver. I should have been a little more clear in my question I guess. The Velcro kind I am looking for information on is the kind that attaches to the receiver. The high end of the Velcro types is like what Hans Vang makes and to go out and buy one of those and one of the Mesa Tactical, isn't practical. I may end up with something that is less money than the Vang model, which is another reason to ask opinions. I'm really just wanting to know the pro's and cons from those that use them and maybe hear from someone who has had both. What ever I get will be subject to the usual "getting to know you" drills until it becomes natural to use.

Gotcha. Sorry about that. I haven't had any experience with those. Well, if nobody gets back to you on here you could try your luck at your gun shop or range. There are three places in my area that I give my business to and are quite knowledgeable when it comes to answering any questions I have.

These are supposed to work pretty well (velcro type), and if they don't you are only out $15.

I switched to velcro. I am currently using a OSOE 6 round card and a moded velcro backed TacStar 4 rounder

I'm using the velcro-backed SO Tech Shotgun Shell Trays. They hold either 5 or 6 shells and come for 2 at 10.95 + shipping. Somewhat less sturdy than my 3 Gun Gear side saddle (which holds 7) but I like them because they're cheap and they fit in an M4 shingle pouch and they're still pretty good quality.

Someone gave me an either 8 or 9 shell velcro loop that I velcro onto my Gold.. I think it is 3-gun gear but not for sure.. I use it for hunting as well..
