Fitting the 8th shell into a Mossberg 500 Persuader

Anybody else having trouble fitting the 8th shell into their Mossberg 500 persuader or 590? I bought this shotgun from big 5 a few months ago so it's still pretty new. I've shot it on some practice shotgun USPSA stages at steel and probably have about 3-400 shells through it, mostly birdshot.

I took it apart and smoothed out some of the surfaces in the gun. This old thread was a lot of help in getting the magazine tube off. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...light=mossberg

I probably wouldn't have gotten it off without this tip, so once again calguns saves the day. Thanks guys.

I dunno if anything I did made it work any better, but it seems like just filling the tube and shoving the shells in as hard as I can has started to break in the mag tube.

I was loading 7 rounds only with Estate shells on the first couple practice sessions. The 8th would only fit into the mag tube about half way. Now the 8th shell is 1/4" or so away from fitting, but I've found Federal shells to fit and winchester bulk from walkmart ALMOST fits. I think with a little more breakin the winchester shells will fit.

ANYWAY, has anyone else had this issue? Does it in fact break it and then fit 8, or are there only certain shells that will fit? What have you found to work or not work?

The Persuader is a 7+1 gun using "standard" 2 3/4" long shells.
    The 590 is an 8+ 1 gun.

There used to be some English 2 1/2" long buckshot around that allowed an extra round to be squeezed in.

crap you're right. Looking at the mossberg website it lists it as a 8shot and the 590 as a 9shot... meaning the 500 is a 7+1.... damnit, I thought it was a 8+1 like the 590

If you use Hornady low-recoil buck, you should be able to get an 8th in there... I can fit 6 in my 5-round tube just barely...

It should be noted that on the 590 there are occasionally cases where you will not be able to fit 8 shells in the tube, unless they are absolutely 2.75" or under. I had a case of Federal 00 "Flight Control" for instance, which were just a smidge long ... wouldn't go to 8.
