    Which Field Shotgun???

Ok Ok...INTERTIA DRIVEN OR GAS OPERATED SELF CLEANING!
    12gauge models

Ive been looking to purchase myself a nice field semi-auto shotgun, Ive been hunting with a mossy silver reserve 20g for about 3.5years now, and its time to get me that 3rd shot ive been missing (some say a wasted shot, I say 1 more bird).

Ive shot my buddys Beretta and love it, its about 8 years old and still functions flawlessly and looks beautiful and recoil is so light!

Heres my dilemma, you got to spend $1500 bucks to get a wood grain from Beretta!! Im not a fan of the synthetic stock or camo. Im looking at the a400 and the urika2.

Now for the other big B, Benelli, Ive been in love with the Montefeltro for years now, super light, looks beautiful (not a huge fan of the m2 though). Never shot a Benelli, just always herd good things, and will be spending 2-300 dollars less.

what to do, what to do....

MONTEFELTRO VS A400 VS AL391 URIKA2 (or maybe theres another gun made by another company that im over looking)

    Any input is appreciated!!!

    thanks in advance

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of excercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate excercise to the body, it gives independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are to violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun, therefore, be the constant companion of your walks." Thomas Jefferson to Peter Carr, 1785.

Take a look at the Browning Maxus...

I'll go with Benelli. Beretta's use gas system in which you need to clean it very well or you'll have problems. All Benelli except the M1040/M4 use the inertia system (a fancier way of saying recoil operated). Go with the Benelli, you won't be disappointed.

Recoil operated guns can be more reliable, but they can also beat on you more. Gas guns are a bit heavier, and usually do not beat on you as much as the recoil systems. I've handled and fired both. It is true that you need to clean the Gas guns more often though you really should clean them all after firing regardless of action system. I find that gas guns are easier to recover for a second shot than the recoil guns. The traditional recoil operated gun was the Venerable hump back Browning Auto 5. I could not hit the broad side of a clay, dove, duck, or goose with one. The "SPROING" of the action was also annoying. Dad used his until he nearly wore it out.. it was his "Go to" shotgun for over 15 years.

Lately the Benelli's have become popular.. I tried shooting a Super Black eagle II this season and could not hit the broad side of a duck or goose with it... it was too light for me. I always do WAY better with my Browning Gold.. The Maxus is the newer version of the Gold and uses some of the same technology, albeit a newer design. I especially like the speed feed function of the original Auto 5, that was incorporated into the Gold and now the Maxus. No other shotgun that I know of has this feature.

Whether someone is disappointed or not really depends on what they like.. if you like a lighter gun, the Benelli is good for that. If you prefer a heavier gun, I'd go with the Maxus, a used Gold, an 11-87, the Beretta, or some other similar gas gun. If you can, see if you can actually shoot them before you buy.. ask people at shotgun ranges and the like..
