Ithaca 37, Browning BPS or ???

I like bottom ejection and I'm looking for a HD gun primarily but, I like the ability to swap barrels if I want to shoot clays or trap in the future. I have a limited budget; but, I don't mind buying used.

1) What are my options? (Ithaca 37, Browning BPS, ???)
2) How do they rank on reliability?
3) Parts availability?
4) Unique features (i.e. Browning tang safety)?

The bottom ejection feature is a plus for shooters on both sides on the stock. Left handed guns can get spendy.

The Model 37 is an extremely versatile platform. LAPD and LASD issued them for decades in huge numbers which says something about the reliability. There were some who mourned when the 37's started leaving the inventory to be replaced by 870's over the past decade. A lightly used Ithaca field model with a couple of extra barrels will be smooth as glass and shoot like a dream and give you all the versatility that you need.

The BPS, being large scale current manufacture, probably has a better parts inventory looking forward into the future. They are also a very good gun and it would be hard to go wrong with one. They get the nod for sure if you are looking for a 3.5 inch capable gun.

I think a lefty shooting a right handed shotgun is the way to go. I chose Mossberg due to the controls being in a perfect position for me. Visual check on the chamber much easier and faster too.

I like the Ithaca 37 so much I have 2 now. They are in current production now and are sold at Turners.

I love Ithaca Model 37's but I'm not sure how to put an extended magazine tube on one... at least without a lot of work.

I use hk Benellis, Remington 870's and Mossbergs for HD.

It's nice they make new models with extended magazines, but I was more concerrned with adding one to an older model.

From what I understand there are a few shops that can do it, but it costs as much as a new gun. The barrel lug has to be moved. It's not something most of us can do in our garage.
