Like many have said, if you can shoot WalMart stuff to with it. I am thinking of reloading even thought I can shoot the WM Federals, but long term I think I should be shooting a load with a bit less kick like a 7/8 ounce. If you are 30 you may do fine now with full loads but may pay the real price in 30 years. I am 63 and just picking up the sport and wish to be able to shoot for a while; [rpbab;y not 30 years. I say if you have a press available already, try reloading. You can save some on reclaimed shot and if you will be using a friend's press perhaps you can split the cost of supplies, if you shoot the same stuff.

if you use the federal low brass shells and fill it with buck or slugs will it be able to handle it?

Just FYI, this surprised me, but it turns out that the WallyWorld pricing for the Federal Game Loads ($4.67/25 shells) is actually a little cheaper than their pricing on the Winchester "Universal" 100-packs ($22.97/100 shells).

It's not a huge difference, but for bulk shooting, every cent counts!

More premium-grade loads will obviously go up quickly from there.

Good point. Much of my reloads I use for trap are 1 oz loads.

I thought there are 7/8oz "low recoil" factory target loads out there, no? Not sure on pricing or where to find them stocked though. Wallyworld doesn't even carry the mainstream Remington Managed Recoil loads for buck or slugs.

I guess you'd have to do the long term math to see if reloading 12ga is worthwhile, unless you have very specific custom loads in mind.

Like the other shooters mentioned, if you wanna shoot custom shotshells or slugs, then reloading shotshells is really worth it. But if you just want to shoot a couple of hundred shot shells for practice or a match, then the Wally World bulk pack is the way to go.

I have been playing with different retail loads as well as some from WalMart. The only two stores I have looked in for 7/8 oz 12 gauge have been a Turners and Fowlers in Orange, CA. This is the low recoil Winchester AA stuff. Fowlers wanted just under $11 and Turners was $9. Shot is #8. If I were to shoot that stuff it would definitley be worth it to me to reload.

WM does have some pretty good deals on one ounce shotshells. The stuff mentioned above for Federal one ounce and also Winchester 1 ounce loads. The difference is the Federal is 3-1/4 ED and 1290 FSP, while the Winchester Super Target (not the Universal) is 2-2/4 ED with a 11890 FSP, The Super Target's are about $1 more a box of 25. Both are 7.5 shot.

The regular 1-1/8 ounce stuff is proabably not a good idea if I shoot a lot. (That is what my shooting partner had in his $3,000 Beretta the other day) For the money, I am thinking shoot the Super Target but if I do load my own I save a bit more than a $1 a box plus there is a good chance I avoid some medical problems.

For me personally I would go with the WalMart stuff,

Whatever you do, I second the others. NEVER buy or shoot reloads unless you did them. Especially not any from a stranger at a gun show.

You also have to consider the time factor in deciding to reload. Some people really enjoy it but some just want to shoot em up.

Yeah, for SFBA WallyWorld, the 1oz Federal "Game Load" in #8 (1290 fps, 3.25 DRAM Eq) is all that I saw for "light loads" at $4.67/25 shells, which is the cheapest available option locally. Even the Winchester "Universal" 1.125oz #7.5 loads (1200fps, 3 DRAM Eq) are slightly more expensive at $22.97/100 shells. They might have Winchester Target stuff too, but the shelves are perennially empty most of the time... big surprise.

Currently I spend about $4.00 box of 25 reloading. Now that I found a place that sells recovered shot that price will drop significantly. Recovered shot is #8 with some #7 & #9 mixed in, cleaned and polished. Not sure why they polish it, I don't care how shiny my lead is. I'll post the price tomorrow if I get paid.
