    Vang Compsystem?

So I've been reading about this system that Mr. Vang does.
Is it well worth the money for this upgrade?

Anyone care to chime in. Thanks.

I have one. The pattern definitely holds tighter patterns than a stock shotgun using federal tactical, winchester ranger 00 buck. I think it's definitely worth the money. I haven't tested out a stock 18" barrel using the new federal 00 tactical with flite control wads vs. vang comp shotgun using regular Federal tactical. My tests were done using my vang comp 18" 590a1 vs. my brothers stock remington 870. My tests were very informal and were done shooting side by side with my brother comparing patterns. Sorry, I don't have any real data for you to compare.

I took a defensive shotgun class from Randy Lee of Apex Tactical last year. Randy brought one of his Vang'd rigs. It was impressive to say the least. The Hornady TAP 00 buck patterns fairly tight out of my stock 870 barrel. But the patterning out of Randy's Vang'd shotgun was unreal. He did a side by side demo w/ stock barrels vs. the Vang barrel and it was awesome.

It's a "must have" item when I finally get around to it. I'd go for it.

I have two Remmie 870s with the ported Vang Comp mods on the barrel and I like them very much. The porting reduces muzzle jump and doesn't appreciably increase muzzle blast. In my mind, it extends the range of the shotgun out to 25 to 35 yds with buckshot. For some, however, they want as open a pattern as possible in order to maximize hit probability at close ranges. I would rather have a tighter pattern, but if you feel like a shotgun is primarily for across the room distances, you probably want an open choke.

I have a Vang Comp barrel on my 870. If you want, I can meet up with you at Sharpshooter when you finish your 10-day wait and you can try mine if I can try yours.

Mark if you want we can go sometime next week.
Being a shooting range and gun dealer.
I can go in and shoot my shotguns as I wait for my 10days.
I did the impulse buy and bought myself 2 870's. The new Remington XCS Marine magnum and also bought the Remington Police Magnum.

My Police magnum is already there and my Marine magnum should be arriving this Friday.

Being new to shotguns I trust all of your information and advice.

I think I'll mess around with my shotguns for a couple months then send them off to Mr. Vang for the Vang Compsystem.

Do you know what the turn around time is?

Cool. Do you work at SS?
Most likely Sunday (I can try Saturday but it might be tough) will be the best day for me to go down there.
I'm new to shotguns as well so I'm curious to see how much of a difference there is with the Vang Comp barrel.

For anyone on the fence about a Vang Comp..at Bullseye we have a Vang and a regular shotgun to take out and shoot to do a comparison.
                Please, calm down.

Hans is a great guy and a genius when it come to tactical shotguns. I have been shooting his system since he had his shop out in Goleta, CA. I do not believe he will just port a barrel. The ports are just part of his system. If you just ported a barrel you would not see the accuracy his barrels are known for (wired talking about accuracy in an 18" shotgun). His system is much more. Lengthen the forcing cone, backbore entire barrel ect.
You will not be disappointed with Hans or his product.

                      Thanks for the info guys.
I think I will go ahead and send both my shotguns to Mr. Vang as soon as I get them from the 10 day waiting period.

1SGMAT how long does it usually take for 1 shotgun?

I want to see how long I'd be without my shotguns.
If its a long wait maybe I'll send just 1 at a time to be upgraded.

I think from the moment I sent it in, to the moment I found it on my front porch, took about a month. To repeat the above, Mr. Vang is a very good guy to work with on the phone.

It took a month for me, because it was a complete rebuild, including attaching MMC ghost rings. If you are just redoing the barrel, it will probably be quicker.

When I send the shotguns in, I'm looking to get the whole 9 yards.
If I'm going to get it done mine as well get everything done to it.

1 month isnt that long of a wait.

I have all the FALs, AKs, and AR's I need.
Time to spend some money on the shotguns.
Then I'll move to some nice bolt guns.

Vang Comp does a great job. Although the barrel porting isn't a complete necessity, I'd say that the back-boring job is an absolute must.

His barrels do what they say they'll do, but you need to think carefully about if that's what you NEED.

The best examples of Vang's work will group a quality buckshot loads into a pattern that is about the same size group as you would expect to shoot with a rifle under pressure. IOW a good (or as I contend "bad") Vang barrel needs to be shot with the precison of a rifle. Which of course begs the question why not just load slugs, or just shoot a rifle.

The shotgun has 2 niche IMHO. One, is that brings devistating stopping power due to multiple simultanious hits spread across the target. Two, it provides some ability to make hits with a partial pattern. The vang system can hold a pattern that doesnt provide enough spread to be worth talking about out past whe range where 33 caliber pellets carry enough enegry to be effective. This degrades the utility of the weapon IMHO.

The only real merit I see in the system is for someone who's forced by some external authority (deprtment policy, limited space, wife's budgetary constraints) to try to make their shogtun do the job of a rifle. A heavy, inaccurate, short ranged, slow reloading rifle.

What it came down to for me is this. At longest distance I might shoot in my house, Fed Tac Buck will shoot a 10 inch pattern. At the longest distance I might shoot on my property, that load will shoot into about 16 inches. I consider this to be ideal. If I Vanged my barrel those numbers would be on the order of 4 inches and 7 inches which is not enough to give you any aiming slack, so why not just grab the springfield with a 20 round mag of 308?

Not saying its bad, just that it may be too much of a good thing and end op making the shougun less of what its suposed to be good at.
