#4 or 00 buck for home defense?

I know there are threads about this, but main question is about effectiveness vs overpenetration. Is #4 as effective? And will it be better for an apartment situation?

    Thanks

have you thought of somthing like this?

That punk pulled a Glock 7 on me. You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. Dosen't show up on your airport X-ray machines, here, and it cost more than you make in a month.

The Centurion Multi-Defense will definitely over-penetrate ... by a LOT.

My personal preference for up-close-and-personal home defense is Nobel Sport #4 Buck

I'd say to read the hundreds of other threads on the issue, but it appears that's not going to happen, so I'll tell you how every one of them ends up. Somebody suggests something other than 00 or #1 buckshot, because they don't want to go through a wall. Then somebody brings in proof that if you want to stop an attacker/home invader you HAVE to use something that can go through a wall or two.

If you want to stop the threat, you will use a round that will penetrate a few walls. If a round will go into a person enough to stop them, it will penetrate walls. Walls are less dense, thinner, and weaker than the human body. There exists no round that will incapacitate a human but magically not go through walls.

Use 00 buck, or the largest buckshot that will fit in your shotgun. Then learn how to put your shots on target and quit worrying about the "effectiveness vs overpenetration" argument.

Keep in mind the effect heavier recoil will have an the time it takes to get off a quality follow up shot.

I have determined that #1 buckshot will penetrate 5/8" gypsum board, like you would find on the ceiling over your workbench in the garage, continue on through 5/8" plywood sub-floor and 3/8" oak parquet flooring in your master bedroom.

                      Hypothetically speaking, of course.

                      Yeah, I'm thinking it'll over-penetrate.

Do you really want to protect yourself with something that WON'T punch that? The human body isn't a balloon for pete's sake: if it's dangerous enough to kill, it's dangerous enough to punch through a few boards.

Personally my first two shots are target loads then 3 00buck then 2 sabot slugs. In the side saddle I've got 3 target and 3 00buck. (if I'm firing more than 2-3 shots there is a world of problems)

Just what I'm running and after much thought and debate and tests my team and I figured it was the best route to go.

I agree that this is going to be beaten to death

PDX works well. at 15yrds it passes through 2- 4'x8' sheets of sheetrock spaced 1 foot apart. barely marked the 3rd sheet.
