hey guys...looking into purchasing a rem870, but looking for more input on these two "recoil reducing" stocks/buffer tubes....i checked out nutnfancy's youtube video on "blackhawk knoxx stocks suck" and learned some pros and cons about the blackhawk system. i could not find any justifying videos or reviews for the mesa tactical recoil reducing buffer systems...if some of you guys that have either system could shed some light on the issue, it would be much appreciated!!!

mesa tactical vs. blackhawk knoxx

nutnfancy is dead wrong! knoxx spec ops stock works and works well (well if your not a moron, dont choke up too close on the stock and you wont get cheek slap and if you dont precompress the springs, they will work nicely). The mesa tatical system is just more expesnive and only has one recoil reduction system which doesn't buffer as well as the 2 in the knoxx system. The knoxx will make 3 inch mag slugs feel less then birdshot!
you can always man up and go home with a bruised and sore shoulder but for me, I like having fun and not getting beat up by my shotgun. -
The SpecOps works when used correctly. You can not shoot it like a conventional stock. the left arm has to be loose so the weapon can cam back. If you lock the left arm you fight the stock and it can not work. Also, you adjust the stock properly and you keep you head up, your head is back at the end of the stock and you raise the stock to your line of sight, you do not lay your face down on it. I explain how to shoot this stock on the red link "Breaking in the 870" on my web site www.aiptactical.com.
The Mesa is the Rolls to the SpecOps. The Endine buffer is a sealed unit in hydrolic oil. The transition of the weapon back and forward through the recoil is smoother then the jerky action of the SpecOps. If one can afford the Mesa then go for it. Also, it is better to get the Mesa as there will be no failure and it will last the life of the weapon. The Specops fails and Black Hawk is horrible with customer service. I have three SpecOps in the shop that failed. The cam spring jumped the receiver mount and they can not be repaired. I believe this is caused by the shooter fighting the weapon and causing this, however, if blackhawk would simply make the end of the cam spring a loop and put the receiver pin through it, this would not happen. Instead it is a hook and can jump off then the stock is FUBAR and good luck getting blackhawk to do anything.
Mesa stand by their products and is right up there with Surefire in customer service. I know it comes down to money for many on choosing one of these stocks, but do the math, buy one stock for the life of the weapon or buy several.
One thing to add. The SpecOps has two recoil springs, one in the pistol grip and one in the stock tube. The one in the grip is the main one and for this reason the stock still eats recoil when being fired from the hip. The Mesa Endine is in the tube so the weapon has to be shouldered for the stock to reduce recoil. This is not an issue for me as hip shooting means recoil is not an issue for me. It may be an issue for some so I mention it.JD McGuire, Owner

awesome! thanks for the info....being an auto technician, i know that parts in motion will eventually fail, so i was skeptical on the springs in the knoxx setup...i might go with the mesa tactical setup...but heres another question, will the mesa setup allow me to use other ar15 type stocks? The SpecOps works when used correctly. Yes indeed, I'm running a magpul CTR stock on mine right now. Works great.
I actually bought my 870 with a specops stock and the spring inside the grip somehow came loose causing the grip/stock assembly to slide out of place. I emailed them about the problem and didn't get a response till about 2 months later. By then I had already picked up the Mesa kit. So yeah, go with Mesa if you can."A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition."

Unknown is correct. I built a weapon for an LAPD Officer and he sent me a Magpul rear stock to put on the Mesa. I kind of liked it. So it is my understanding that it will accept any Mil Spec M-4 type stock as the Endine buffer is Mil Spec.
And yes, the issue he had with the SpecOps is the issue I was talking about.JD McGuire, Owner

I really feel like proper technique makes vastly more difference in the abuse you take than any springy doodads you want to dangle off of your shotgun. If I were to pick between the two, though, I'd take the Mesa Tactical a thousand times over. Awesome company, awesome product.☀
