    new shotgun jamming

i just picked up my remington 870 express supermag turkey/waterfowl on thursday and took it out to shoot skeet this morning. i was using the walmart Federal 12g 2 3/4 8 shot cuz it was cheap. the chock i was using was a mod chock. i would load 2 shells and after i fire the first shot, the fore-end would stay locked and i could not eject the empty shell. i would have to sit there and pull the fore-end up and down and after a few trys it would finally open up and eject the shell. this is my first pump action shotgun and i really don't know whats wrong because the gun is brand new

Did you ensure everything was lubed first? Just a thought.

When I brought my FN SLP home a few weeks ago I took everything apart and oiled the necessary parts as soon as I got through the door.

Go to www.aiptactical.com and click on the red link "Install and Cleaning" make a polishing rod like on that page and follow my directions. Stop using Universal ammo. The issue is over.

dude, you should have gotten a mossberg! they are easier to load and go bang each time you pull the trigger.

i dont demand a lot out of my guns but I do demand those two things!

Aippi's process, and some break in, will almost certainly cure the problem. Federal bulk shells, on the other hand.... not sure if there really is a cure for them, although my guns seem to handle them okay. Other people I've seen shooting them have had issues.

If you are buying bulk at Wally, go for the Remington. Those shoot great in my 870 and my over/under.

Relax all is not lost, I was in your position and AIPPI saved the day! Ihad the same problem and a bit of buffing with steel wool did the trick. I shot 6 rounds of trap today with no problems. My 870 has preformed very nicely and yours will too!

Your 870 will be fine. Just do what aippi says and clean the heck out of the chamber and bore with a good cleaner. All my 870s did this. Now they are fine.

and pay no attention to eccvets, his answer for everything is
"should have bought a Mossberg" and
"put a knoxx stock on it"

To expand on my post, I just bought 4 870s a month ago. I absolutely love these guns. For $300, you can't buy a better gun. They all run perfectly now. But, all of them initially had this problem.

Remington would be wise to put a simple flyer in the box with each new gun explaining this process.

Even wiser would be to polish the chamber at the factory and not frustrate a new 870 owner ever again. But extra steps in manufacturing = greater cost of goods so we'll all likely have to keep polishing our chambers on new 870's when we buy them.

*cough cough*... You could have spent just $200 on a Chinese 870 clone and it would have worked right out of the box! The name Remington alone costs $100.

I don't shoot trap/skeet ever - I do a lot of stuff with shotguns but not that. (so please, don't comment on my poor form)
I had been shooting all day both Federal Low Recoil Tactical buck and full power slugs, also some other buckshot and slug rounds to compare. not a single jam all day.
My friend had a clay thrower and slow clays and so I decided to see what I could do with a 18.5 bbl but didn't have any birdshot.
he gave me a box of winchester AA and so we went at it.
                            I can't STAND that ammo
