Older 870 Wingmaster, what's it worth?

Here's a pic of my buddie's 870 he recently inherited, it's flawless and was reportedly never fired since purchased new in the 60's or 70's. Was wondering what this might sell for...

$250 to $300. There are over 10 million 870's out there. The are the work horse not the race horse of the shotgun world so resale value is not high. Look at the serail number. If it ends in the letter "V" it is a 2 3/4" receiver and would be worth less to most buyers then if it ends in the letter "M" which is the 3" receiver. That means nothing to me or many guys as I don't use 3" shells. It is a matter of what a buyer wants.

Thanks, the serial indicates it's a pre-68 and the chamber size is a 2 3/4"

I have paid as little as $125 on up to $250 for them. My favorite pump shot gun!

in california you can turn a C&R shotgun into a short barreled shotgun with a little paperwork. that makes their value higher than a new 870.

the 3 vs 2 3/4 is not an issue to most. who really shoots 3 inch shells anyway?

sure some do but most use 2 3/4 for nearly all their shotgunning. 3 1/2 for ducks/geese.

ATF is saying if you change the barrel length and make a SBR then it's no longer a C&R because you just MADE the C&R. I disagree and some of their rulings contradict this but they hold the pen that signs the approvals.

you can make it into a SBS, BUT (SBS's are illegal in Calif ) and no you can't make it into an AOW due to the fact that it has a full stock on it now

either way the older wingmasters are made much better then the newer ones. i wouldn't sell that shot gun for less than $400.

For all of you guys that want to drivel over a 2 3/4" Wingmaster or spew about sending it in for a tactical makeover you have lost your minds. For one this is a non magnum receiver gun. So if you want to spray and pray zombies with bird shot all day have fun. Sorry OP that your "how much is my gun worth" thread turned into a mall ninja security briefing.

For a real nice older 870 like in the picture, I have seen anywhere from $200 to about $350---yes the older ones are more desirable then the current Express models, but the newer Wingmaster or Police shotguns are pretty nice. Somehow over the years, I have managed to pick-up three older 870s, only one is for 3" shells, the other two are 2 3/4" only---doesn't really effect my shooting. Grab a few extra barrels and you have a shotgun system good for everything from self-defense to hunting or skeet and trap---thats my set-up.
