    LG,
I still have one, in 20 gauge, I got it for my 13th birthday. I don't think they held much value, other than sentimental. Also, Sears had a recall on some of the models, I think there were bolt problems. ??

The JC Higgins 582-23 was Sear's house brand of the High Standard model 10. They were produced between 1954 and 1956. Interestingly enough, in 2005, Sears announced a voluntary recall of the 583 series which only includes the models 583.13, 583.14, 583.15, 583.16, 583.17, 583.18, 583.19, 583.20, 583.21 and 583.22.

The 583.23 was not on the recall list. The shotguns were being voluntarily recalled due to a potential problem with the bolt latch assembly, which could cause the assembly to fail allowing it to dislodge and strike the shooter in the face! Sears was offering a $160 finders' fee for the return of the bolt, in effect, making the shotgun inoperable.

Current values of the 583.23 is some where between $75 to $150 depending on condition. Bolt action shotguns are a little out of vogue, and this is reflected in their value.

Personally, I think bolt action shotguns are very cool.

That punk pulled a Glock 7 on me. You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. Dosen't show up on your airport X-ray machines, here, and it cost more than you make in a month.
