+1 on buy the gun... now, assuming it's all good and in even reasonable shape. One note... if the serial number on the Wingmaster does not end with an "M", it won't handle 3 inch shells.

The Mossberg barrel is 'okay' but I think you'll be much happier if you spend the bit of extra money for a Remington factory barrel. The finish on the Mossberg barrel when mated to what is usually an excellent blue on a vintage Wingmaster would just look wrong, IMO. Or you'd want / have to Dura-Coat the receiver and tube to match the Mossberg barrel.

Tube extensions.... the best are (again IMO) the Wilson, followed by Scattergun Technologies and Nordic, with Remington OEM coming in third.

Laminate stock... as in synthetic / plastic? You can get both ends of a Hogue overmolded set for ~ $50 in standard length of pull. The reduced length of pull Hogue is $54 for the butt stock alone at Midway, and is backordered right now. Shop around and others might have it for less.

If you want a laminated wood stock you'd likely have to have it professionally shortened to have it done right. And the stock itself can be a little spendy.

being an 870 is an 870 it is a fine place to start. However, why would you put an after market barrel on it when the 18.5" parkerized police, bead sight barrel is $101 from Remington. Also, cutting down wingmaster stocks is fine, however if they are in good shape they would sell for more then it would cost you to get a new synthetic set.

Buy that shotgun ASAP and start your build but if you need the flex tab coversion, new barrel, new stocks and any work on it, you might come out better keeping it for sporting use and simply getting an 870 HD model #25077
