Ive had a lot of shotguns over the years and i just picked up another 870. the problem is, I cannot remove the bolt. I removed the buttstock and the trigger before I attempted to remove the bolt and i may have tweaked something. I know your supposed to remove the bolt first. Ive googled it and nothing. I know that you need to depress the slide rail and the forend and bolt are supposed to come out. but mine hangs up. any ideas?

870 problem

Be sure to remove the barrel and mag cap. Neither the buttstock nor the trigger group need to be removed, but no problems if you do.
Depress the RH latch and move the bolt slightly forward, depress the LH latch and move the bolt forward and out of the front of the receiver.Comment

just the left side
I don't think removing the trigger plate will tweak anything

I'm going to take my trigger assembly out of my 870 before I take the bolt assembly out to see what might be the problem here... give me 5 minutes
EDIT: I honestly don't know what could cause it to be stuck due to removing the trigger assembly first.
maybe you're not pushing hard enough on the slidcatch?Last edited by FatalKitty; 01-16-2011, 1:44 PM.you don't rise to the occasion,

A common problem is that some guys have the weapon upside down and the locking block stops the breech bolt from coming out. Gravity is your friend, hold the weapon right side up so the locking block falls into breech bolt and out of the way and the entire assembly should slide right out if you have depressed the shells latch the guys above told you to.JD McGuire, Owner

Yes, it do kitty but try taking the breech bolt out with the weapon upside down. May work, may not as the locking block falls out of the breech bolt and jams it. The guys gave perfect instructions to the OP on how to remove this assembly so it is either that................. or........the shell latch has moved forward. Check to see if the forward trigger pin will go in. If not, then tap the shell latch back into place by lining up the hole in the receiver and the shell latch and push the forward trigger pin in. Now remove the beech bolt assembly. Issue over. Can't think of anything else except operator error.JD McGuire, Owner

UPDATE. AS CRAZY AS IT SOUNDS, IT TURNS OUT THAT THE SLOT THAT THE CARIIER RUNS ON IT OUT OF SPEC. ITS TOO SMALL!! I bought this gun used and the original owner apparently never took it appart. after finally cavemanning the thing apart, it will not go back together. Thanks for all of those who tried to help, i think its time to find a professional or throw the thing away!Comment
