Tacstar Mossy 500 Side Saddle problem?

I've been shopping for accessories for my 500 lately and came REAL close to buying this side saddle before I read the reviews on it here.

Apparently there is a problem after installing the side saddle with it interfering with the cycle of the weapon if it has the stock forend. I haven't read of this problem anywhere here on the forums and have noticed a bunch of you have it on your weapons. Have any of you encountered this problem?

Depends on the length of your for-end (does it overlap the receiver?) and the size you get. I have a 4rd one, and a Big 5 Mossberg 500 combo with a for-end that does overlap. Works fine.

If I had to do it again though, I'd get this: http://3gungear.corecommerce.com/Sho...de-Saddle-c27/

I have that very one on my 500 that is otherwise unmodified with no issue. The slide stops approx. 3/4" prior to the reciever.

Rob, did yours come with the ribbed for-end? Such as this one:

Mine came with the smooth for-end, like this one:

I didn't get the breacher package, but I believe I will have a problem with this particular side saddle and my for-end.

Reductio, I really like the look of the side saddle you posted, but I question it's ability to secure the shells. Would you happen to have any experience with the equipment at all?

My 500's for-end looks like your second picture there: so you can either cut down a 6rd to 5 (hopefully) or go with a 4rd.

I don't have any personal experience with it, but I've gotten many recommendations from the good guys in this forum, and they've all loved theirs. Example (with a few valid extra points): http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...7&postcount=14

You could also just run a search for "3gungear" and see what comes up.

judging by the pics, it's also like the remington 870 side saddle issue, some of the forends had clearance issues, and like some of you said, you can alter it by cutting it down or get a completely different forend.

Not sure. I couldn't tell from the pics, they were too small

Yes, the ribbed style. I have never seen that other style before.

Grab a Falcon or Surefire railed forend. It will get rid of the problem as they do not overlap the reciever at all, or take a dremel to it.

After further examination, even with the 3gungear side saddle you would run into problems as the forend runs a good 3/4 of an inch over the receiver. The only options you have if you want a receiver mounted side saddle with the smooth bodied forend is to either: switch it out, cut it back, go with a side saddle less than a 6-shot, or cut one the the shell holders off the 3gungear saddle nearest the end of the receiver. I believe I'm going to go with the last option as I really want the as many extra shells as close to the magazine tube/chamber as possible for fast reloading and/or emergency reloads.
