This past Sunday's monthly registered shoot at Triple B Clays (in El Monte, CA) marked my return to "D" class. Owners Bruce and Billie Barsotti set up a challenging course, and included a delicious lunch of BBQ-ed ribs, salad and baked potatoes.
TBC actually has 24 stations, 12 tournament and 12 hunter. (This gives you the option of picking your difficulty level. If you want to come out and work on your game, shoot the tournament stations. If you want to come out and break some clay, shoot the hunter stations.)
Bruce, ever the target tactician, tested you at each of the 12 tournament stations he had set for today. He mixed in fast targets, with slow targets, in the distance, with in your face. Reports pairs and true pairs were nicely spread throughout the course.
We even had a surprise guest. Byron Justice, on vacation from Texas, took time out of his family vacation to join us. Even though he was using a borrowed gun, he still managed to "break a few." Actually, he did pretty well, and I had the pleasure of shooting with him.
After shooting concluded we were treated to a fantastic lunch. If you've had lunch there in the past and were disappointed, trust me you won't be any more.
After lunch came the awards. Don't ask me how, but I managed to break enough targets to win "E" class, and get a punch. Now it's "Woo-hoo I'm back into "D" class." I even won a really nice trophy, a brand new crisp $100 bill. (Tom John took HOA. A complete list of scores can be found on http://www.triplebclays.com)
Actually, I took a lesson from Dan Carlisle a few months ago and it really helped. I shot a 72x100 today, and while I'm not shooting well, I am shooting better
Truth be told, Dan's system has really worked for me.
I found out another thing. When I keep my head on the stock, and my eyes on the bird, it works out much better for me. (That plus both hands on the gun, and none on my camera helps too.)
