    pachmayr forend owners...

after i installed this forend (which was a pita btw) my pump action doesn't seem as smooth. it is smooth pumping towards the reciever, but pumping out has become alittle stiff. i don't know if it is because i bent the action bars in and back out during the installation process and now it is binding in the receiver or if the forend itself is rubbing up against the barrel close to the receiver. what has been your experience with this forend? i only see two options here, buying a new forend tube and tossing this whole forend setup or taking a razor and shaving some rubber off the forend.

has anybody had similiar experiences with their pachmayr forend or is it just me? lol

Brand and model of gun? And is it clear, like it's shedding rubber crumbs when you work the action, that the fore end itself is rubbing someplace? If there is no clear evidence of the rubber being scraped, then the cause will lie elsewhere.

Bending the action bars = not good, generally speaking.

These have to be lined up perfectly before you tighten the forend tube nut. Another reason I will not use them. If it is canted to either side you are rubbing on the barrel as the forend comes back as the barrel gets thicker back there, or you are rubbing on the receiver.

i have a remington 870 and i'm not exactly sure if it's rubbing on the receiver.

man it was such a b!tch to slip over the forend tube. i had to grab it by the base of the arms and twist and push down to get it to slip on (that's how i bent the arms inward) then i just pounded it in the rest of the way with a rubber mallet.

i think it is the forend rubbing on the barrel actually. it is not centered perfectly on the forend tube. it is pretty close but not exact. i was just so sick and tired of it that i just bolted it in and put everything back together. this thing is married to the forend tube now lol

are the arms ok though if i bent them back into place? or should i just buy a new forend tube? if the arms are ok i'm just going to cut this damn thing away and put the stocker back on there. it was alot smoother when i had the stock forend on there. that's what i get for always having to mess with stuff.

To have a smooth cycling 870 it is critical for the forend tube assembly to be in good shape. If the action bars are bent you are not going to have a smooth weapon. If you bend them back it is a temp fix as they go back to the damaged state. Sounds like you FUBAR'd a $35 part.

Also get the Speedfeed LE forend. Your tube nut is still good as long as the threads are fine so you only need the forend tube assembly. Avoid used ones 'cause if the timing cuts are damaged you are installing problems or future problems.

success!!! it was the forend rubbing up against the entire barrel. it wasn't centered perfect all the way through. it was actually rubbing up towards the front of the forend. you could see the rub marks on both the forend and the barrel. after i trimmed that section away it is back to smooth easy action. it cycled my rounds like before. now i just gotta go out and shoot it.

so any future pachmayr owners look out for this rubbing issue i guess. i am going to buy another forend tube assembly anyway for when i change out forends. this thing is practicaly glued on it feels like. thanks for all your help.
